Common Causes
- The doorbell is out of WiFi range or connected to a 5 GHz network instead of 2.4 GHz
- The wireless chime is not paired or is too far from the doorbell
- Battery is low (if using battery power) or the wired transformer voltage is insufficient
- The Aqara hub has a firmware issue affecting the doorbell's Zigbee connection
- Phone notifications for the Aqara Home app are disabled
- HomeKit or third-party platform integration is disconnected
Fix 1: Check Power Supply
The Aqara Video Doorbell G4 can run on batteries or be wired to an existing doorbell transformer.
- If using battery power, open the Aqara Home app and check the battery level on the doorbell's device page. Recharge or replace the batteries if the level is below 20 percent. Low battery can cause the doorbell to become unresponsive or stop sending video.
- If wired, verify that your doorbell transformer outputs between 8 and 24 volts AC. Transformers below 8V may not provide enough power. You can use a multimeter to check the voltage at the doorbell wires.
- If the doorbell does not power on at all, try removing and reinserting the batteries, or check the wiring connections at both the doorbell and the transformer.
Fix 2: Reconnect the Doorbell to WiFi
- Open the Aqara Home app and check if the doorbell shows as online or offline.
- If it is offline, confirm your WiFi router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network. The G4 does not support 5 GHz WiFi.
- Move your router closer to the front door if possible, or add a WiFi extender or mesh node near the doorbell's location.
- If the WiFi network name or password has changed, you will need to reset the doorbell and reconnect it. Press and hold the doorbell button for 10 seconds to enter pairing mode, then set it up again in the Aqara Home app.
Fix 3: Fix the Wireless Chime
The G4 includes a wireless chime unit that plugs into an indoor outlet. If the chime is not ringing when the doorbell is pressed:
- Make sure the chime unit is plugged into a working outlet and powered on. A small LED on the chime should be visible.
- Verify the chime is within Zigbee range of the doorbell. Move it closer if needed — thick walls and long distances can block the signal.
- Re-pair the chime to the doorbell. In the Aqara Home app, go to the doorbell's settings and select the chime pairing option. Follow the on-screen instructions to link the chime.
- Check the chime volume setting in the app. It may be set to silent or very low.
Fix 4: Fix Notification Issues
If the doorbell works but you are not receiving alerts on your phone when someone rings or when motion is detected:
- Open your phone's Settings, go to Notifications, and find the Aqara Home app. Ensure notifications are enabled with banners, sounds, and lock screen alerts.
- In the Aqara Home app, go to the doorbell's device page and check that motion detection notifications and doorbell press notifications are both enabled.
- If you use Do Not Disturb mode on your phone, add the Aqara Home app to your allowed apps list so doorbell alerts come through.
- On Android, check that the Aqara Home app is not being killed by the battery optimizer. Go to Settings > Battery > Aqara Home and set it to "Unrestricted."
Fix 5: Improve Video Quality and Connection
If the live view fails to load or shows heavy buffering:
- Check your WiFi signal strength at the doorbell location. You can use a WiFi analyzer app on your phone to measure the signal. Aim for at least -60 dBm.
- Reduce the video quality in the doorbell settings to a lower resolution if your WiFi bandwidth is limited.
- Restart the doorbell by pressing and holding the button for 5 seconds (short reset — does not erase settings).
- If the connection drops frequently, consider adding a dedicated WiFi access point near your front door.
Fix 6: Re-Pair to the Aqara Hub
If the doorbell has completely lost its connection and none of the above fixes work:
- Remove the doorbell from the Aqara Home app (Settings > Remove Device).
- Reset the doorbell by holding the button for 10 seconds until you hear a voice prompt indicating it is ready to pair.
- Add it again through the app by tapping + and following the setup process.
- Reconfigure your chime, motion zones, and notification settings after re-pairing.
When to Contact Support
If the doorbell does not power on with fresh batteries and confirmed wiring, or if the camera hardware produces no video even when connected, contact Aqara Support for warranty assistance.
