Reolink cameras offer good value but can have connectivity challenges. This guide addresses common issues with WiFi and PoE Reolink cameras.

Camera Won't Connect to WiFi

Initial setup problems:

  • 2.4GHz only: Most Reolink WiFi cameras only support 2.4GHz networks
  • Password characters: Avoid special characters in WiFi password during initial setup
  • QR code method: The app generates a QR code - hold phone 8-12 inches from camera lens
  • Brightness: Ensure phone screen brightness is at maximum for QR code scanning
  • Ethernet first: Some users connect via ethernet to configure WiFi, then switch to wireless

Stream Drops or Poor Quality

If video frequently buffers or disconnects:

  • WiFi signal: Check signal strength in camera settings - consider WiFi extender or PoE switch
  • Bandwidth: Lower stream resolution if network is congested
  • Dual-band camera: If you have a dual-band model, try connecting to 5GHz for better throughput
  • Direct connection: Use sub-stream for live viewing, main stream for recording
  • NVR connection: Wired NVR connections are more stable than app-based viewing

Can't View Remotely

If camera works locally but not remotely:

  • Reolink account: Ensure camera is bound to your Reolink account
  • UID mode: Most users should use UID connection mode rather than IP/DDNS
  • Port forwarding: Not usually required for UID mode, but needed for direct access
  • Cloud service: Check if Reolink cloud services are experiencing outages

Home Assistant Integration

For Home Assistant users:

  • Reolink integration: Use the official Reolink integration (requires local API access)
  • Enable local API: In camera settings, ensure "Local Access" or API is enabled
  • RTSP streams: You can also add cameras via generic camera using RTSP URL
  • Static IP: Assign a static IP to prevent integration breaking after IP change

Night Vision Issues

Problems with low-light performance:

  • IR reflection: Position camera to avoid IR reflecting off windows or walls
  • IR settings: Adjust IR LED intensity in camera settings
  • Color night vision: Ensure adequate ambient light for spotlight cameras in color mode
