Common Causes
- The switch or button has lost its Zigbee connection to the Aqara hub
- Battery is depleted (for wireless buttons) or power supply is interrupted (for wall switches)
- The switch is out of Zigbee range from the hub
- Hub firmware or device firmware is outdated
- Wiring is incorrect for the no-neutral variant
- The connected load is too low for the no-neutral switch to operate
Fix 1: Verify Power to the Switch
The Aqara Smart Wall Switch H1 (No Neutral) draws power through the connected load rather than a neutral wire. This means it requires a minimum load to function.
- Check that the circuit breaker controlling the switch is in the ON position.
- If the switch's LED indicator is completely dark and unresponsive to touch, there may be a wiring issue. Turn off the breaker, remove the switch faceplate, and verify that the live and load wires are securely connected to the correct terminals.
- The no-neutral variant requires a minimum load of approximately 3 watts. If you are using very low-wattage LED bulbs (under 3W), the switch may not receive enough power to operate. Try replacing one bulb with a slightly higher wattage LED or add an Aqara bypass capacitor if available.
Fix 2: Check Battery (For Wireless Buttons)
If the device in question is an Aqara wireless button or mini switch rather than a wired wall switch:
- Open the battery compartment and check the CR2032 coin cell battery.
- Replace the battery with a fresh one, ensuring the positive (+) side faces the correct direction.
- After inserting the new battery, press the button once. The LED should flash briefly, confirming the device has power.
Fix 3: Re-Pair the Switch to the Hub
- Open the Aqara Home app and check the switch's status. If it shows offline or unavailable, proceed with re-pairing.
- Remove the switch from the app by going to its device page, tapping Settings, and selecting Remove Device.
- For a wall switch: press and hold the switch button for 10 seconds until the LED blinks rapidly, indicating pairing mode.
- For a wireless button: press and hold the reset button (small hole on the side or back) for 5 seconds with a pin until the LED blinks.
- In the app, tap +, select Add Accessory, and follow the prompts to pair the switch to your hub.
- Reassign it to the correct room and recreate any automations.
Fix 4: Move the Switch Closer to the Hub or Add Repeaters
Zigbee range issues are a common cause of switches and buttons becoming unresponsive, especially in larger homes or when separated by thick walls.
- Check the approximate distance between the switch and your Aqara hub. Zigbee typically works within 10 to 20 meters indoors.
- If the switch is far from the hub, add a Zigbee repeater between them. Powered Aqara devices like Smart Plugs or other wired Wall Switches act as mesh network repeaters.
- After adding a repeater, restart the hub and wait 15 to 30 minutes for the Zigbee mesh to reorganize.
Fix 5: Update Firmware
- Open the Aqara Home app and go to your hub's device page.
- Check for hub firmware updates and install them. Then check the switch's device page for device-level firmware updates.
- Firmware for Zigbee devices is delivered through the hub, so the hub must be updated first.
- After updating, verify that the switch responds normally.
Fix 6: Check Automation Configuration
If the switch responds to physical presses (the LED lights up and the app shows the state change) but the connected lights or devices do not react, the issue is likely in the automation setup.
- In the Aqara Home app, navigate to Automations.
- Find the automation linked to the switch and verify that the trigger action (single press, double press, or long press) matches what you are doing.
- Check that the target device in the automation is online and responsive.
- Test the target device independently to rule out a problem with that device.
- If needed, delete the automation and create a new one.
When to Contact Support
If a wired wall switch's LED never illuminates even with correct wiring and a live circuit, or if the switch overheats during use, turn off the breaker immediately and contact Aqara Support. Do not continue using a switch that shows signs of electrical malfunction.
