If your Eufy doorbell isn't recording events, missing motion alerts, or not saving video clips, this guide covers the most common causes and fixes from the community.
Important: Doorbell Won't Record During Live View
This is a known limitation that catches many users off guard.
Eufy confirms: "When you are watching the live view, the camera will stop detecting all motion and you will not receive any motion detection notifications."
If someone approaches while you're actively watching, the doorbell won't record that event. Close the live view to resume normal recording.
Check Recording Mode Settings
Verify Motion Detection is enabled:
- Open the Eufy Security app
- Tap on your doorbell
- Go to Settings → Motion Detection
- Ensure Motion Detection is ON
Check your Security Mode:
- Home mode: Reduces recording frequency (may miss events)
- Away mode: Fully arms the camera for maximum recording
- Disarmed: No recording at all
Set to Away mode if you want to capture all events.
Check Detection Type:
- "Human Only" mode may miss some events
- Try setting Detection Type to "All Motion" to test
- This catches more but may include false alerts
Activity Zone Issues
If you've set up Activity Zones, motion outside those zones won't trigger recording.
- Go to Settings → Activity Zones
- Check that zones cover the areas you want monitored
- Temporarily disable zones to test if that's the issue
- Ensure zones aren't too small or excluding your walkway
Detection Sensitivity and Distance
Increase detection range:
- Go to Motion Detection settings
- Increase the Detection Distance slider
- Also check Linger Detection settings if available
Adjust sensitivity:
- Too low = missing events
- Too high = false alerts
- Start high and reduce if you get too many false alerts
WiFi and Network Issues
Poor connectivity is a common cause of missed recordings.
Check your connection:
- Eufy requires 2.4GHz WiFi (not 5GHz)
- Check signal strength in the Eufy app
- Weak signal can cause the doorbell to miss events
Improve connectivity:
- Add a WiFi extender near the doorbell
- Move your router closer if possible
- Check for interference from other devices
- Assign a static IP to prevent disconnections
Storage Issues (Homebase Users)
If you use a Homebase for local storage:
Check storage status:
- Open Eufy app → Homebase settings
- Check Storage Management
- If storage is full, recordings may stop
- Enable automatic overwrite or manually delete old clips
Homebase connection issues:
- Ensure Homebase is online (check LED status)
- Restart the Homebase by unplugging for 30 seconds
- Check that Homebase firmware is updated
One user reported: "No notifications and no events were being recorded" when their Homebase 3 had connectivity issues.
Doorbell Button Press Not Recording
If the doorbell works for motion but not button presses:
- Check Ring Notification settings are enabled
- Verify the doorbell button isn't stuck or damaged
- Check if the chime/announcement settings affect recording
One user noted: "I want to record visitors only when they press the doorbell button, but sometimes it records the ringing event and sometimes it doesn't."
Night Recording Issues
Some users report recording stops or becomes unreliable at night:
- Check Night Vision settings (Auto, On, or Off)
- Ensure IR LEDs aren't blocked or dirty
- Verify motion detection sensitivity isn't set differently for night
- Some firmware versions have had night detection bugs—check for updates
One user reported: "My doorbell stopped recording events once it gets dark, and also started missing events during daylight."
App Notification Settings
If the doorbell is recording but you're not getting notifications:
Check Eufy app settings:
- Go to Device Settings → Notifications
- Ensure notifications are enabled for Motion and Ring
- Check notification schedule isn't blocking alerts
Check phone settings:
- iOS: Settings → Eufy Security → Notifications → Allow Notifications
- Android: Settings → Apps → Eufy Security → Notifications
- Disable Battery Saver restrictions for the Eufy app
- Check Do Not Disturb isn't active
Firmware Updates
Outdated firmware can cause recording issues:
- Open Eufy app → Device Settings
- Check for firmware updates
- Install any available updates
- Wait for the doorbell to restart
Power Issues (Battery Doorbells)
Low battery affects recording reliability:
- Check battery level in the app
- Charge or replace batteries if low
- Very cold weather drains batteries faster
- Consider the solar panel attachment for continuous charging
Factory Reset (Last Resort)
If nothing else works:
- Remove the doorbell from the Eufy app first
- Press and hold the Sync button for 10+ seconds
- Wait for the LED to indicate reset (varies by model)
- Set up the doorbell again as a new device
