Identifying the Issue
When your eufy Security Smart Lock Touch is not connecting or having unlocking issues, you may experience the lock not appearing in the eufy Security app via Bluetooth, the fingerprint scanner failing to recognize registered prints, PIN codes not working on the keypad, the deadbolt motor struggling or refusing to extend or retract, or the lock showing as unresponsive when you approach. Since the Smart Lock Touch relies primarily on Bluetooth for communication, most connectivity issues are range or interference-related, while unlocking problems tend to be mechanical or sensor-based.
Common Causes
- Bluetooth range exceeded: The Smart Lock Touch connects via Bluetooth, which has an effective range of about 30 feet. Thick doors, metal frames, or interference from other wireless devices can reduce this range significantly.
- Low battery voltage: As the AA batteries deplete, the lock's electronics may become unreliable — the fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth radio, and motor can all malfunction before the app shows a critical battery warning.
- Dirty or wet fingerprint scanner: Moisture, dirt, sunscreen, or cold-weather dryness on your fingertip or the scanner surface can cause fingerprint recognition failures.
- Deadbolt misalignment: If the door has shifted due to settling, temperature changes, or a loose hinge, the deadbolt may not align with the strike plate, causing the motor to strain or fail to lock.
- Multiple Bluetooth connections: The Smart Lock Touch supports only one active Bluetooth connection. If another phone is connected, your phone cannot pair simultaneously.
Step-by-Step Fixes
- Move closer to the lock: Stand within five feet of the lock and open the eufy Security app. Bluetooth connectivity improves dramatically at close range. Wait 10 seconds for the app to detect the lock.
- Replace the batteries: Remove the existing AA batteries and install fresh lithium AA batteries. Lithium batteries provide more consistent voltage than alkaline, which is critical for the fingerprint scanner and motor. If the lock is completely dead, use the emergency USB-C port on the bottom of the exterior assembly to temporarily power it and unlock the door.
- Clean the fingerprint scanner: Wipe the scanner surface with a dry microfiber cloth. If it is very dirty, use a slightly damp cloth and then dry it thoroughly. Re-scan your finger on the reader — if it fails three times in a row, wait 30 seconds before trying again, as the lock may temporarily lock out the scanner for security.
- Re-register fingerprints: In the eufy Security app, delete existing fingerprints for the affected user and re-register them. When scanning, roll your finger slightly to capture different angles and edges of your fingerprint. Register the same finger twice for improved accuracy.
- Check deadbolt alignment: Open the door and manually test the deadbolt by turning the interior thumbturn. If it moves smoothly with the door open but struggles when closed, the strike plate and bolt are misaligned. Use a file to widen the strike plate opening or adjust the strike plate position with the mounting screws.
- Disconnect other phones: In the eufy Security app on any other phone connected to the lock, disconnect or close the app. Then try connecting from your phone. Only one Bluetooth connection is active at a time.
- Factory reset the lock: Press and hold the reset button on the interior assembly for 10 seconds. The lock will beep and reset to factory defaults. Re-add it in the eufy Security app and re-register all fingerprints and PIN codes.
When to Contact Support
Contact eufy support if the lock's motor makes grinding noises and cannot move the bolt even with fresh batteries and proper alignment, if the fingerprint scanner never recognizes any prints after factory reset and re-registration, or if the emergency USB-C power does not activate the lock. These may indicate hardware defects in the motor, scanner, or control board.
Prevention Tips
Replace batteries every six months proactively. Keep a physical backup key in a secure location outside your home in case of complete electronic failure. Periodically check the deadbolt alignment by manually turning the thumbturn with the door closed — if resistance increases over time, adjust the strike plate before it becomes a problem. Clean the fingerprint scanner monthly to maintain recognition accuracy. Avoid using the lock with wet or heavily lotioned hands, as this degrades scanner performance.
