Understanding the Issue
The Eve Light Strip is a HomeKit-enabled LED strip that provides customizable color and white lighting controlled through the Apple Home or Eve app. When the light strip fails to connect or does not light up properly, the problem is typically related to Bluetooth or Thread connectivity, power supply issues, or a pairing failure with HomeKit.
Common Causes
- The light strip is out of Bluetooth or Thread range from your HomeKit hub
- The power adapter is not fully connected or the outlet is not receiving power
- The light strip has been disconnected from HomeKit and needs to be re-paired
- Firmware is outdated, causing connectivity instability
- The LED strip extension is not properly attached to the main strip
- The HomeKit home hub (HomePod, HomePod Mini, or Apple TV 4K) is offline or not set as the active hub
- A Thread network issue is preventing the device from communicating
Step 1: Check the Power Supply
- Verify that the power adapter is firmly plugged into a working electrical outlet.
- Check that the connector between the power adapter and the light strip controller is fully seated.
- Try plugging the power adapter into a different outlet to rule out a dead or switched outlet.
- Inspect the power cable for any visible damage, kinks, or fraying.
- If the light strip uses an extension, disconnect the extension and test the main strip alone to determine if the extension connector is the issue.
Step 2: Check Connectivity Status
- Open the Apple Home app and look for the Eve Light Strip in your room list.
- If it shows No Response or Not Responding, the device has lost its connection to your HomeKit hub.
- Open the Eve app and navigate to the light strip. Check whether it shows as connected or unreachable.
- If the light strip supports Thread, go to Eve app > Settings > Thread Network to verify the Thread network is active and the device appears in the network topology.
- Ensure your Thread border router (HomePod Mini or Apple TV 4K) is powered on and connected to your network.
Step 3: Move the Light Strip Closer or Improve Network Coverage
- If the light strip is installed far from your HomeKit hub or Thread border router, the signal may be too weak. Try temporarily placing the hub closer to test connectivity.
- Add Thread-enabled Eve or other HomeKit devices between the hub and the light strip to extend the Thread mesh network.
- Avoid placing the light strip controller behind large metal objects or inside enclosed metal cabinets that block wireless signals.
Step 4: Power Cycle the Light Strip
- Unplug the Eve Light Strip from its power adapter.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and wait one to two minutes for the device to reconnect to your HomeKit hub.
- Check the Home app to see if the light strip reappears and responds to commands.
Step 5: Update Firmware
- Open the Eve app and go to Settings > Devices.
- Select the Eve Light Strip and check if a firmware update is available.
- If an update is pending, follow the on-screen instructions. Keep your phone near the light strip during the update process.
- After the update completes, test the light strip's responsiveness.
Step 6: Reset and Re-Pair
- Press and hold the reset button on the Eve Light Strip controller for 10 seconds until the LED indicator blinks rapidly.
- In the Home app, remove the light strip by long-pressing the accessory, opening settings, and selecting Remove Accessory.
- Re-add the light strip by tapping Add Accessory in the Home app and scanning the HomeKit code on the device or its packaging.
- Assign the strip to the correct room and test both on/off and color controls.
Additional Tips
- If only a section of the light strip is not illuminating, the LED strip itself may have a damaged segment. Check for visible damage along the strip.
- The Eve Light Strip supports adaptive lighting when used with Apple Home — make sure your Home app is updated to take advantage of automatic color temperature adjustments.
- Avoid coiling the light strip tightly, as excessive bending can damage the internal LEDs or circuits.
