Understanding the Issue
The Eve Light Switch is a smart wall switch that integrates with Apple HomeKit to control connected light fixtures. When the switch stops controlling your lights, the issue usually involves wiring, connectivity to your HomeKit hub, or configuration problems within the Home or Eve app.
Common Causes
- The switch has lost its Bluetooth or Thread connection to your Apple Home hub
- Wiring connections inside the wall box are loose or incorrect
- The circuit breaker for the switch's circuit has tripped
- The switch firmware is outdated
- The switch has been removed from HomeKit and needs to be re-paired
- The HomeKit home hub (HomePod, HomePod Mini, or Apple TV 4K) is offline
- The switch is assigned to the wrong accessory or room in the Home app
Step 1: Check Physical Operation
- Press the physical button on the Eve Light Switch. The connected light fixture should turn on or off regardless of smart home connectivity.
- If pressing the button does nothing, check the circuit breaker in your electrical panel and ensure the circuit is active.
- If the switch has no power (no LED indicator light), the wiring may be disconnected. Turn off the breaker, remove the faceplate, and verify all wire connections are secure in the switch terminals.
- If the physical button works but smart control does not, the issue is with connectivity, not wiring.
Step 2: Verify HomeKit Connectivity
- Open the Apple Home app and find the Eve Light Switch in your device list.
- If it displays No Response, the switch has lost communication with your HomeKit hub.
- Confirm your home hub (HomePod, HomePod Mini, or Apple TV 4K) is powered on and connected to the same network.
- Open the Eve app and check the switch's connection status. If the Eve Light Switch supports Thread, verify the Thread network is healthy under Settings > Thread Network.
Step 3: Restart the Switch and Hub
- Turn off the circuit breaker controlling the Eve Light Switch for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
- Wait one to two minutes for the switch to reconnect to your HomeKit hub.
- If the switch still shows as unresponsive, restart your home hub by unplugging your HomePod or Apple TV for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.
- Check the Home app again after the hub has fully restarted.
Step 4: Check Automations and Scenes
- If the switch responds to manual presses in the Home app but does not work with automations, open the Home app and go to Automations.
- Review any automations involving the Eve Light Switch and ensure they are enabled (not paused).
- Verify that the switch is assigned to the correct room and controls the intended light fixture.
- If the switch was recently renamed or moved to a different room, Siri commands may need to be updated to match the new name.
Step 5: Update Firmware
- Open the Eve app and go to Settings > Devices.
- Select the Eve Light Switch and check for firmware updates.
- Install any available updates. Stay close to the switch during the update and do not turn off the circuit breaker until it completes.
Step 6: Reset and Re-Pair the Switch
- If the switch remains unresponsive to smart control, perform a factory reset by pressing and holding the button on the switch for 10 seconds (refer to the Eve manual for your specific model's reset procedure).
- Remove the switch from the Home app by selecting it, tapping settings, and choosing Remove Accessory.
- Re-add the switch by scanning the HomeKit setup code found on the device or its installation card.
- Assign the switch to the correct room and reconfigure any automations.
Additional Tips
- The Eve Light Switch requires a neutral wire in most installations. If your home's wiring does not include a neutral wire at the switch box, the switch may not function correctly.
- If you have multiple Eve devices, a healthy Thread mesh network improves reliability. Adding more Thread devices between the switch and your border router can help.
- Avoid overloading the switch beyond its rated wattage capacity, as this can cause the switch to shut off or malfunction.
