Common Causes
- No Matter controller hub: Matter devices require a compatible controller such as an Apple HomePod, Apple TV 4K, Google Nest Hub, Amazon Echo (4th gen or newer), or SmartThings hub. Without one of these on your network, Matter pairing will fail.
- Hub firmware outdated: Your Matter controller hub needs to be running the latest firmware to support newer Matter devices. An outdated Apple TV, HomePod, or Echo may not recognize the Govee device.
- Wrong WiFi band: Matter over WiFi requires a 2.4GHz network. If your hub and the Govee device are on different bands or subnets, they can't communicate.
- QR code or setup code issues: If the Matter QR code is damaged, blurry, or if you're entering the numeric code incorrectly, pairing will fail repeatedly.
- Device not in pairing mode: If the device was previously paired or the pairing window has expired, it won't be discoverable.
