Problem Description
Your Kwikset Halo WiFi Smart Lock is not connecting to WiFi, failing to lock/unlock remotely via the Kwikset app, or showing offline status.
Common Causes
- Lock not connected to 2.4GHz WiFi network
- Low battery causing connectivity issues
- Lock not enrolled in Kwikset app properly
- Door misalignment causing motor strain
- WiFi signal too weak at door location
Solutions
1. Check Battery Level
- Low batteries are the #1 cause of connectivity issues
- Check battery level in the Kwikset app
- Replace all 4 AA batteries with fresh alkaline batteries
- Do not use rechargeable batteries (voltage too low)
2. Verify WiFi Requirements
- Halo requires 2.4GHz WiFi (5GHz not supported)
- WPA2 security required (WPA3 may cause issues)
- WiFi password must be under 31 characters
3. Check WiFi Signal at Door
- Open Kwikset app and check WiFi signal strength
- Signal should show at least 2 bars
- If weak, consider adding a WiFi extender near the door
4. Check Door Alignment
- Open the door and test locking - if it works smoothly, door is misaligned
- Adjust strike plate for better alignment
- Ensure deadbolt extends fully without hitting frame
5. Recalibrate the Lock
- Open Kwikset app and select your lock
- Go to Lock Settings
- Run the calibration/handing process
- Door should be closed during calibration
6. Factory Reset
- Remove the battery pack
- Press and hold the Program button
- While holding, reinstall the battery pack
- Keep holding until the lock beeps and LED flashes
- Release and set up the lock again in the app
Beep Code Reference
- 1 beep: Successful operation
- 3 beeps: Invalid code or error
- 10 beeps: Low battery warning
