Kwikset Smart Lock Troubleshooting
Kwikset offers Halo (WiFi), Halo Touch (WiFi + fingerprint), SmartCode (Z-Wave), and Aura (Bluetooth) locks. All feature Kwikset's SmartKey re-key technology.
Lock Won't Connect
Halo/Halo Touch (WiFi)
- Download Kwikset app and create account
- Tap + to add new lock
- Follow prompts (lock needs to be installed and powered)
- Connect to 2.4GHz WiFi when prompted
SmartCode Z-Wave
- Put your Z-Wave hub in inclusion mode
- On lock: Enter programming code, press lock button
- Press 9, then lock button
- Wait for hub to discover the lock
Aura (Bluetooth)
- Download Kwikset app
- Enable Bluetooth on your phone
- Tap + to add lock and follow prompts
- Bluetooth only - no remote access without a compatible hub
Fingerprint Issues (Halo Touch)
Enrolling Fingerprints
- In Kwikset app, go to lock > Users > Add User
- Select "Fingerprint" as access type
- Touch finger to sensor multiple times at different angles
- Enroll same finger 2-3 times for better recognition
Fingerprint Not Recognized
- Clean the sensor with a dry cloth
- Re-enroll fingerprints in dry conditions
- Avoid very wet or dry fingers
- Delete and re-add fingerprints if persistent
User Codes
Adding Codes
- Enter programming code on keypad
- Press lock button
- Press 1 for new user code
- Enter new code (4-8 digits), press lock button
Code Not Working
- Verify code was saved (check in app for WiFi models)
- Try re-entering the programming sequence
- Delete and re-add the code
- Check if lock is in lockout mode (too many wrong attempts)
Auto-Lock Issues
- Enable in Kwikset app or program on keypad
- Typical range: 30 seconds to 5 minutes
- Ensure door closes properly for auto-lock to work
- Check that lock isn't reporting "jammed"
SmartKey Re-Key
Kwikset's SmartKey lets you re-key without a locksmith:
- Insert current key and turn 1/4 turn clockwise
- Insert SmartKey tool and push
- Remove SmartKey tool
- Insert new key and turn 1/2 turn counter-clockwise
