Lorex security cameras deliver professional-grade surveillance with local storage and no monthly fees. But connectivity problems and recording failures can make setup frustrating. Here is how to fix the most common Lorex issues.

Camera Not Connecting to WiFi

  1. Confirm you are on 2.4GHz WiFi. All Lorex WiFi cameras require 2.4GHz. If your router broadcasts a combined network, temporarily disable the 5GHz band or create a separate 2.4GHz SSID.
  2. Open the Lorex Home app and scan the QR code on the camera. If it will not scan, enter the device ID manually.
  3. Keep your phone within 3 feet of the camera during pairing. The initial handshake uses a sound-based transfer that fails at distance.
  4. Check your WiFi password for special characters. Some models struggle with ampersands, backslashes, or non-ASCII characters.
  5. Power cycle the camera by unplugging it for 30 seconds and waiting for the LED to blink before retrying.

If the camera still will not connect, factory reset by pressing and holding the pinhole reset button for 10 seconds until the LED changes pattern.

Camera Not Recording or Missing Footage

  1. Check the microSD card. Remove it, reinsert firmly, and try formatting through the app. Cards can silently fail after heavy write cycles.
  2. Verify motion detection is enabled. If set to record on motion only, no events means no clips.
  3. Review detection zones -- zones configured too narrowly miss activity outside those areas.
  4. For NVR setups, check the hard drive status in the NVR menu. A failing drive shows errors or reduced capacity.

Wire-Free Camera Battery Draining Fast

  • Reduce motion sensitivity or narrow the detection zone. Every triggered recording costs battery.
  • Charge via the included magnetic cable. A full charge takes about 6 hours.
  • Consider a Lorex solar panel for sunny locations to eliminate manual charging.
  • Cold weather drains batteries faster. Expect shorter life during winter months.

Video Doorbell Problems

  1. Measure transformer voltage with a multimeter. Below 16V causes intermittent disconnections.
  2. Check chime compatibility. Digital chimes may need a bypass adapter.
  3. If pre-roll is not working, confirm it is enabled in settings and check for firmware updates.

Voice Control and Home Assistant

Link your Lorex account in the Alexa or Google Home app to view cameras on Echo Show or Nest Hub. For Home Assistant, enable RTSP in Lorex settings and use the Generic Camera integration. Motion events can be routed through Frigate for local AI detection.

When to Contact Support

Reach out to Lorex if the camera LED shows solid red that will not clear after a factory reset, the NVR hard drive makes clicking noises, or video artifacts persist after changing the SD card. Hardware failures are covered under warranty for the first year.
