Lux smart thermostats provide WiFi-connected climate control with geofencing at a competitive price. When they stop connecting or your HVAC does not respond, it is usually a wiring or network issue you can fix yourself.

Thermostat Not Connecting to WiFi

  1. Confirm your network is 2.4GHz. Lux thermostats do not support 5GHz. Create a dedicated 2.4GHz SSID if your router uses a combined network name.
  2. On the thermostat, navigate to Settings and select WiFi setup. Enter your password carefully using the on-screen keyboard.
  3. Check signal strength at the thermostat location with your phone. A weak signal may require a WiFi extender.
  4. Verify the thermostat has adequate power. A dim or unresponsive display often means a missing C-wire.
  5. Restart your router by unplugging for 30 seconds, then retry.

C-Wire Power Issues

The C-wire provides constant 24V power. Without it, many Lux models behave erratically:

  • Pull the thermostat off the wall plate and look for a wire on the C terminal. No wire there means your old thermostat may have been battery-powered.
  • Lux KONO models can use the included C-wire adapter kit that connects at the furnace end.
  • Symptoms of insufficient power: display cycling on/off, WiFi disconnecting, thermostat rebooting during HVAC calls.

HVAC Not Responding

  1. Verify wiring connections at the wall plate. Confirm each wire is seated firmly in the correct terminal (R, W, Y, G, C).
  2. Check the system type setting in installer settings -- conventional, heat pump, or dual fuel. Wrong settings send wrong signals.
  3. Test each mode independently. If only one mode fails, the problem is likely with that equipment, not the thermostat.
  4. Check the circuit breaker for your furnace and AC. Breakers can trip during power surges without notice.
  5. Wait 5 minutes between mode changes. Compressor delay prevents short cycling.

Geofencing Not Working

  1. Enable location services for the Lux app. On iOS, set to "Always." On Android, allow background location and exempt from battery optimization.
  2. Set meaningful temperature differences between home and away modes so you actually notice the feature working.
  3. Add other household members so the system stays in "home" mode when anyone is present.

Voice Control

Link your Lux account in the Alexa or Google Home app. Say "Set the thermostat to 72" or "What is the temperature inside?" If commands stop working, unlink and relink the account.

Factory Reset

Navigate to Settings on the display, then Reset or Factory Reset. On KONO models, hold the reset button for 10 seconds. You will need to reconfigure WiFi, schedules, and system settings afterward. Write down your wiring before resetting.

When to Call a Pro

Contact an HVAC technician if your furnace control board fuse keeps blowing, if you hear clicking at the furnace but the blower never starts, or if the thermostat repeatedly blows fuses after wiring. These are equipment-level problems beyond thermostat troubleshooting.
