Netatmo makes privacy-focused smart cameras, doorbells, and thermostats that store footage locally without mandatory subscriptions. When devices will not connect or behave unexpectedly, the fix is usually straightforward.
Device Not Connecting to WiFi
- Verify you are on 2.4GHz WiFi. Netatmo devices will not see 5GHz networks. Split your bands if using a combined SSID.
- Keep your phone within a few feet during pairing. Newer models use Bluetooth for initial setup.
- Check the device LED. It should blink slowly in pairing mode. If not, power cycle by unplugging for 15 seconds.
- Check router settings for MAC address filtering or client isolation that may block new devices.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the setup button for 15 seconds until the LED changes pattern.
Indoor Camera (Welcome) Issues
- Face recognition needs time. The camera must see a face multiple times before reliably identifying someone. Tag unidentified detections in the app to train it.
- Missing recordings: Check the microSD card slot on the bottom. Remove, reinsert, or format through the app if recordings are missing.
- HomeKit Secure Video requires an iCloud+ plan -- 50GB for one camera, 200GB for up to five.
Outdoor Camera (Presence) Issues
- Too many false alerts? Adjust detection sensitivity and configure alert zones to exclude busy streets or swaying trees.
- Floodlight not activating: Check app settings for trigger type (people only, all motion, or off) and any schedules restricting operation.
- Installation requires an outdoor electrical junction box. Power issues usually trace back to loose wiring at the junction box or a tripped circuit.
Thermostat Not Controlling Heating
- Verify installation type. OpenTherm provides modulating control, while relay mode is simple on/off. The wrong setting causes erratic behavior.
- Check the relay module wiring at the boiler. The thermostat communicates wirelessly with this module.
- Replace thermostat batteries (3x AAA). Low batteries prevent the wireless signal from reaching the relay module.
- Auto-Adapt needs about a week of data before it accurately pre-heats your home. Give it time.
- Smart Valves showing offline? Check batteries (2x AA) and move the valve closer to the relay module.
Video Doorbell Issues
- Measure transformer output. Below 16V, the doorbell will not power reliably.
- Chime not ringing? Check compatibility and whether a chime adapter is needed for digital chimes.
- Local recording uses the built-in microSD. If recording stops, the card may be full or failing.
Home Assistant Integration
The built-in Netatmo integration uses the cloud API. Create API credentials at dev.netatmo.com, then add the integration in HA. Cameras, thermostats, and weather stations appear as entities. Use RTSP for lower-latency local camera feeds, and webhooks for motion/person detection automations.
When to Contact Netatmo Support
Contact Netatmo if the LED is stuck in an unusual pattern after factory reset, the camera shows heavy image distortion that cleaning does not fix, or the relay module produces a burning smell. Hardware defects are covered under the two-year warranty.
