Reolink cameras are popular for their local storage, no-subscription model, and wide range of form factors. When a camera will not connect or stops recording, here is how to troubleshoot the most common issues.
Camera Not Connecting
- Check WiFi band compatibility. Most newer Reolink cameras support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, but some older or budget models are 2.4GHz only.
- Scan the QR code on the camera using the Reolink app. If it will not scan, enter the UID manually.
- For PoE cameras, check that the ethernet cable is firmly connected to both the camera and PoE switch. Try a different cable to rule out a bad one.
- Check power status. WiFi cameras should show an LED during boot. PoE cameras should show a link light on the switch port.
- Factory reset: Hold the pinhole reset button for 10 seconds. The camera reboots and announces "System starting."
Camera Not Recording
- Check the microSD card in app settings. Verify it is detected and has free space. Try reformatting through the app.
- Verify recording mode. Motion-only mode will not capture footage during quiet periods -- that is working as designed.
- Adjust motion sensitivity. Too low or too narrow a detection zone means missed events.
- For NVR setups, check hard drive health. Listen for clicking or unusual sounds -- signs of failure.
- Use high-endurance SD cards rated for surveillance. Replace annually for 24/7 recording.
Duo Dual-Lens Camera
- A slight stitching seam between lenses is normal. Adjust camera position so the seam falls on a less important area.
- Reduce false alerts by narrowing detection zones to exclude moving trees, reflections, or passing traffic.
E1 Zoom Indoor Camera
- Pan/tilt not responding: Restart by unplugging for 10 seconds. Grinding noises may mean physical obstruction.
- Motion tracking needs adequate lighting. It performs poorly in very dark conditions.
- Privacy mode bugs on older firmware are fixed by updating through the app.
Video Doorbell
- Wired version: Requires 16-24V AC. Measure with a multimeter -- below 16V causes reboots.
- Battery version: Expect 2-4 months per charge depending on traffic and sensitivity.
- Wireless chime not ringing? Re-pair by pressing the sync button on the chime during doorbell pairing mode.
- Enable person detection to reduce false alerts from cars and animals.
Local Storage Options
- MicroSD: Simple, per-camera. Use 64-256GB high-endurance cards.
- NVR: Best for multi-camera setups. Continuous recording from all cameras.
- RTSP: Supported on all models for third-party recording via Synology, Blue Iris, or Frigate.
- FTP upload: Push motion clips to an FTP server as a backup method.
Home Assistant Integration
Add the Reolink integration in HA with the camera's local IP and credentials. Each camera gets a live feed entity plus binary sensors for motion, person, and vehicle detection. PTZ controls are available as service calls. Use RTSP directly for lowest latency.
When to Contact Support
Contact Reolink if IR LEDs stop illuminating at night, a PoE camera will not power on with any cable or switch, or the speaker produces a persistent buzzing noise. These are hardware issues covered under the two-year warranty.
