Common Causes
If your Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is not connecting to WiFi or is failing to record video, the problem usually stems from one of these issues:
- WiFi signal too weak at the camera's outdoor mounting location
- Power supply issue — wiring problem, tripped breaker, or loose connection
- Router or internet outage — no internet connection reaching the camera
- WiFi network change — password update, new router, or SSID change
- Motion detection disabled or misconfigured motion zones
- Ring Protect subscription expired — live view works but recordings are not saved
- Firmware update issue — pending or failed update causing erratic behavior
Fixing Connection Issues
Step 1: Verify Power Supply
- Check that the circuit breaker controlling the camera's electrical circuit is in the ON position.
- Look at the camera. The status light on the bottom should be illuminated if the camera has power. If there is no light at all, the camera is not receiving power.
- If the camera has no power, turn off the breaker, check the wire nut connections in the junction box, and ensure all wires are securely connected. Turn the breaker back on.
- If the camera still has no power, there may be a wiring issue. Consult an electrician.
Step 2: Check WiFi Signal Strength
- Open the Ring app and select the Floodlight Cam.
- Tap Device Health and check the RSSI value.
- RSSI between -40 and -60 is good. Weaker than -70 will cause frequent disconnections and failed recordings.
- If the signal is poor, add a WiFi extender or mesh WiFi access point near the camera's location. Outdoor cameras often struggle with WiFi because they are far from the router with exterior walls in between.
Step 3: Power Cycle the Camera
- Toggle the circuit breaker off for 30 seconds, then switch it back on.
- Wait two to three minutes for the camera to fully reboot.
- Check the Ring app to see if the camera reconnects.
Step 4: Reconnect to WiFi
- If the camera does not reconnect automatically, open the Ring app and go to Device Health.
- Tap Reconnect to WiFi.
- Press the setup button on the top of the camera (you may need a ladder to access it).
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the camera to your 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
Fixing Recording Issues
Step 5: Check Motion Detection Settings
- In the Ring app, select the Floodlight Cam and tap Motion Settings.
- Verify Motion Detection is toggled on.
- Check Motion Zones — make sure the areas you want to monitor are covered by active zones.
- Increase the Motion Sensitivity slider if the camera is missing events.
- Check Motion Schedule — confirm there is no schedule disabling motion during the times you expect recordings.
Step 6: Verify Your Ring Protect Subscription
- The camera will only save recorded video if you have an active Ring Protect subscription. Without it, you can view live video but recordings are not stored.
- In the Ring app, go to Account, then Subscriptions.
- Verify your subscription is active and covers this camera.
Step 7: Check for Firmware Updates
- In the Ring app, go to Device Health and check the Firmware version.
- If an update is available, the camera will download and install it automatically when connected to WiFi. This may take several minutes.
- Do not power cycle the camera during a firmware update.
When to Contact Ring Support
- If the camera has power and a strong WiFi signal but still will not connect, there may be a hardware failure.
- If live view works but the camera never records motion events despite correct settings and an active subscription, the camera may need replacement.
- Contact Ring Support through the Ring app or at ring.com/support for further diagnosis.
