SimpliSafe offers DIY home security with professional monitoring options. This guide covers common system issues.
Base Station Won't Connect
WiFi and cellular issues:
- Cellular backup: Base station has built-in cellular - WiFi isn't required
- WiFi optional: WiFi enables app control but isn't needed for monitoring
- Power cycle: Unplug base station for 30 seconds
- Location: Keep base station central and away from metal/interference
- Signal test: Run cell signal test in SimpliSafe app
Sensors Not Responding
When sensors don't trigger:
- Battery: Replace sensor batteries (most use lithium cells)
- Range: Sensors communicate to base station - keep within range
- Placement: Entry sensors need proper alignment with magnet
- Test mode: Use test mode in app to verify each sensor
- Re-pair: Remove and re-add sensor in SimpliSafe app if needed
False Alarms
Reducing unwanted alerts:
- Motion sensitivity: Adjust motion sensor sensitivity
- Pet mode: Enable pet-immune setting for motion sensors
- Entry delay: Increase entry delay time if triggering on entry
- Sensor placement: Avoid pointing motion sensors at heat sources or windows
- Loose sensors: Re-mount loose sensors that may vibrate
Keypad Issues
Keypad not working:
- Battery: Wireless keypad runs on batteries - replace if low
- Range: Keep keypad within range of base station
- PIN code: Verify correct PIN is being entered
- Touchscreen: Clean touchscreen if not registering presses
Voice and App Control
Smart home integration:
- Alexa: Enable SimpliSafe skill - can arm/disarm by voice
- Google: Link account in Google Home for voice control
- Subscription: Some features require monitoring subscription
- Home Assistant: SimpliSafe integration available with account credentials
