Yeelight smart bulbs and light strips offer good value with wide ecosystem support. This guide addresses common connectivity issues.
Bulb Won't Enter Pairing Mode
Getting the bulb ready to pair:
- Power cycle: Turn bulb off and on 5 times (2 seconds on, 2 seconds off) until it blinks
- Reset method varies: Some models require different reset sequences - check manual
- Use correct app: Use Yeelight app (not Mi Home) for best results initially
- Fresh socket: Test in a lamp where you can easily control power
Device Won't Connect to WiFi
WiFi pairing issues:
- 2.4GHz only: Yeelight devices only work with 2.4GHz WiFi networks
- Password length: Some devices struggle with very long WiFi passwords
- Special characters: Avoid special characters in SSID and password during setup
- Router settings: Disable AP isolation and band steering if enabled
- Device limit: Some routers limit connected devices - check if at capacity
Device Goes Offline
Yeelight drops from app frequently:
- DHCP reservation: Set static IP in router to prevent IP changes
- WiFi signal: Move router closer or add mesh node near lights
- Firmware update: Update device firmware through Yeelight app
- LAN control: Enable LAN Control in device settings for local access
HomeKit Integration
For HomeKit-compatible Yeelight devices:
- Mi Home first: Some models require setup in Mi Home, then HomeKit
- HomeKit code: Find code in Yeelight app under device settings
- Firmware: Ensure latest firmware for HomeKit compatibility
- Not all models: Only certain Yeelight models support HomeKit
Home Assistant Integration
For local control with HA:
- Enable LAN control: Required for Yeelight integration to work locally
- Discovery: HA should auto-discover Yeelight devices on network
- Music mode: Some advanced features require manual configuration
- Static IP recommended: Prevents devices going unavailable after IP changes
