How to Set Up the Nanoleaf Sense+ Smart Button

Your Nanoleaf Sense+ Smart Wireless Button package includes the Sense+ button, an adhesive mount, a replaceable coin-cell battery (pre-installed), and a quick start guide. • Bluetooth enabled on your phone for pairing
• A Thread border router on your network for best performance (Apple HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, or similar Thread-capable device)

The Sense+ button communicates using Thread and Bluetooth, integrating into the same low-power mesh network used by Nanoleaf Essentials products. It can also function as a Matter controller, allowing it to control non-Nanoleaf smart home devices that support the Matter protocol.

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Open the Nanoleaf app on your phone and tap "Add Device" or the "+" icon.
2. Select "Sense+" from the list of products. The app will begin searching for the button via Bluetooth.
3. Press the button on the Sense+ to activate it and put it into pairing mode. A small LED indicator on the button will flash to confirm it is discoverable.
4. When the app detects the Sense+, tap it to begin pairing. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the connection.
5. Assign actions to each press type: configure what happens on a single press, double press, and long press. For example, set single press to toggle your bedroom lights, double press to activate a color scene, and long press to turn off all lights in the home.
6. Name the button and assign it to a room in the app.
7. Choose a location for the button. Peel the adhesive backing from the mount and press it firmly onto a wall, desk surface, or nightstand. The button magnetically attaches to the mount for easy removal.

App Configuration and Automation

The Nanoleaf app provides a visual interface for programming each press action. You can assign actions to control individual devices, device groups, rooms, or entire scenes. The Sense+ can also trigger automations in your Matter-compatible smart home platform. For instance, program the button to activate a "Good Night" routine that turns off all lights, locks the doors, and adjusts the thermostat. The button's three action types (single, double, long press) make it a versatile physical controller without needing to reach for your phone.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the Sense+ does not pair, ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and you are within close range. Press and hold the button for 10 seconds to force it into pairing mode. If the button stops responding after setup, the coin-cell battery may be depleted. Open the button housing and replace the battery. If programmed actions do not trigger, verify that the target devices are online and reachable on your network. Check the Thread network status in the Nanoleaf app and ensure your border router is functioning. If the adhesive mount does not stick, clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol and press firmly for 30 seconds.
