What's in the Box

The Shark Matrix Self-Empty Robot is a smart robot vacuum with an automatic self-emptying base that lets it clean for weeks without manual bin emptying. Inside the box, you'll find the Shark Matrix robot vacuum, a self-empty base station, side brushes, an extra HEPA filter, and a quick start guide. The Matrix features precision home mapping with room-by-room cleaning, powerful suction for carpets and hard floors, and a bagless self-empty base that holds up to 60 days of debris.

Prerequisites

Before you begin setup, ensure you have:

  • A smartphone with the SharkClean app installed (iOS or Android)
  • A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and password (the robot does not support 5 GHz)
  • A flat area near a wall outlet for the self-empty base — allow 3 feet of clearance on each side and 4 feet in front so the robot can dock easily
  • Floors reasonably clear of small objects, loose cords, and light rugs that could interfere with the robot's initial mapping

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Position the self-empty base against a wall on a flat, hard surface and plug it into a wall outlet. This will be the robot's permanent home base, so choose a location you're happy with — moving it later requires remapping.
  2. Unpack the robot and remove all tape, protective films, and packaging inserts. Snap the side brushes onto the rotating posts on the underside of the robot.
  3. Place the robot on the base station to begin its initial charge. A full charge takes about three hours. The robot's indicator light will show the charging status.
  4. Open the SharkClean app on your phone. Create an account or sign in, then tap Add a Product. Select the Shark Matrix Self-Empty Robot from the product list. The app will walk you through connecting the robot to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
  5. Once the robot is fully charged and connected to Wi-Fi, launch the initial mapping run from the app. Tap Map My Home or start a full cleaning cycle. The robot will explore your entire home, building a detailed floor plan as it cleans. Allow the robot to complete this run without interruption for the most accurate map.
  6. After the first run, open the map in the SharkClean app. Label each room with its name and adjust room boundaries if the robot didn't divide spaces perfectly. You can also set cleaning power levels per room — higher suction for carpeted areas and standard suction for hard floors.

Smart Home Integration Tips

  • Connect the Shark Matrix to Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant through the SharkClean app. Once linked, you can start cleaning with voice commands like "Alexa, ask Shark to clean" or "Hey Google, start the vacuum."
  • Schedule automatic cleanings in the app — set daily or weekly schedules for specific rooms, and the robot will start and return to its base without any input from you.
  • Use the app's no-go zone feature to block areas you want the robot to avoid, such as pet feeding stations, delicate furniture legs, or rooms under renovation.
  • The self-empty base empties the robot's dustbin automatically after each cleaning session. The base's collection bin holds about 60 days of debris. The app will notify you when it's time to empty the base.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the robot won't connect to Wi-Fi during setup, verify you're using a 2.4 GHz network — some routers need the bands split to separate SSIDs. If the robot's map is incomplete or inaccurate, clear obstacles from the floor and run a new mapping cycle. For error messages about brush tangles, flip the robot over and remove any hair or debris wrapped around the main brush roll and side brushes. If the self-empty base isn't emptying the robot, check that the base's collection bin is properly seated and not full. Clean the robot's cliff sensors and bumper sensors with a dry cloth if the robot starts avoiding areas it previously cleaned without issues.
