What You'll Need

  • Aeotec Door/Window Sensor 7 Pro
  • Z-Wave hub or controller (SmartThings, Home Assistant, Hubitat, etc.)
  • CR123A battery (included)
  • Smartphone with your hub's app

Step 1: Unbox and Inspect

Remove the sensor from packaging. Your box should include the sensor unit, large magnet, small magnet, double-sided tape (2 sets), screws, and dowels.

Step 2: Install the Battery

Open the sensor cover by pressing the release tab. Insert the included CR123A battery, observing correct polarity. The LED will flash briefly to confirm power.

Step 3: Add to Your Z-Wave Network

SmartStart Method (Recommended): Scan the QR code inside the battery compartment with your hub's app. The sensor will auto-join within 10 minutes of powering on.

Classic Pairing: Put your Z-Wave hub into pairing/inclusion mode. Triple-click the tamper switch inside the sensor. The LED will blink green/red during pairing. Wait for confirmation in your hub's app.

Step 4: Mount the Sensor

Choose a location on your door or window frame. For standard open/close detection, mount the sensor on the fixed frame and the magnet on the moving part, aligned within 10mm of each other.

For Tilt Detection: Mount the sensor on the moving window sash and the magnet on the frame. The window must open at least 5° for tilt detection to work.

Use the included double-sided tape for easy installation, or screws for permanent mounting through the holes in the battery compartment.

Step 5: Close the Cover

Important: Always close the sensor cover after setup. The sensor stays awake while open, draining the battery. It only enters power-saving mode when closed.

Step 6: Test the Sensor

Open and close your door or window. Check your hub's app to verify the sensor reports the correct open/closed status. For tilt-enabled windows, test the tilt position as well.

Features

  • Z-Wave 700 Series: Extended range and improved battery life
  • Security S2: Encrypted communication with your hub
  • Tilt Detection: Detects tilted window positions (European-style windows)
  • Dry Contact Input: Optional external sensor connection
  • Tamper Alert: Notifies if sensor cover is removed

Troubleshooting

  • Won't pair: Move closer to your hub, ensure hub is in pairing mode, try triple-clicking tamper switch again
  • Wrong status reported: Check magnet alignment - should be within 10mm of sensor and on the marked side
  • Short battery life: Ensure cover is fully closed; open cover keeps sensor awake
  • No tilt detection: Verify sensor is on moving part, window opens at least 5°
