The IKEA PARASOLL is a Matter-compatible door and window sensor using Thread protocol. This guide addresses detection issues and connectivity problems.

Verify Proper Installation

1. Check Magnet Alignment

The sensor relies on proper magnet placement:

  • Sensor and magnet should be within 15mm of each other when closed
  • Alignment marks on both pieces should face each other
  • Use a level to ensure both pieces are straight
  • Test by moving magnet near sensor—app should show status change

2. Mounting Surface

Proper mounting ensures reliable detection:

  • Clean surface thoroughly before applying adhesive
  • For metal door frames, use standoff or mount on wood trim
  • Allow adhesive 24 hours to cure before testing
  • Consider screw mounting for heavy-use doors

Connectivity Issues

1. Thread Network Status

PARASOLL uses Thread protocol and needs a Thread border router:

  • Ensure DIRIGERA hub or compatible Thread border router is online
  • Check hub LED status for normal operation
  • Thread devices work best with multiple routers forming a mesh
  • Add TRADFRI outlets as Thread routers if signal is weak

2. Improve Thread Coverage

If sensor frequently goes offline:

  • Add Thread-enabled devices between sensor and hub
  • Move DIRIGERA hub to a more central location
  • Avoid placing hub in enclosed cabinets or behind TVs

Reset and Re-Pair Sensor

Factory Reset Steps

  1. Remove sensor from IKEA Home Smart app
  2. Open the sensor cover to access reset button
  3. Press and hold the reset button for 5+ seconds
  4. LED will flash to confirm reset
  5. Re-add in IKEA Home Smart app > Add device > Sensor

Matter Pairing

For adding to other Matter controllers:

  1. Ensure sensor is reset and in pairing mode
  2. Scan the Matter QR code on the device or box
  3. Follow your controller app's pairing instructions
  4. Wait for Thread network to establish (may take 2-3 minutes)

Battery Optimization

PARASOLL uses a coin cell battery:

  • Use high-quality CR2032 battery for best life
  • Expected battery life is 1-2 years with normal use
  • Frequent open/close cycles reduce battery faster
  • Replace battery when app shows low battery warning

Automation Issues

If automations based on sensor don't trigger:

  1. Test sensor manually—verify status changes in app
  2. Check automation conditions are set correctly
  3. Ensure automation is enabled and not paused
  4. Verify time-based conditions if used
  5. Test with a simple automation first

When to Contact Support

Contact IKEA support if:

  • Sensor won't enter pairing mode after reset
  • Battery drains within weeks of replacement
  • LED doesn't light up when triggering sensor
