What You'll Need

  • Aeotec MultiSensor 7
  • Z-Wave hub or controller (SmartThings, Home Assistant, Hubitat, etc.)
  • Two CR123A batteries OR USB power cable (included)
  • Smartphone with your hub's app

Step 1: Choose Your Power Source

Battery Power: Insert two CR123A batteries observing correct polarity. The sensor will operate as a sleeping device to conserve battery.

USB Power: Connect the included micro-USB cable to the sensor and a 5V USB adapter. USB power enables the sensor to act as a Z-Wave repeater.

Note: If you change power sources later, you'll need to re-pair the sensor with your hub.

Step 2: Add to Your Z-Wave Network

SmartStart (Recommended): Scan the QR code on the sensor with your hub's app. The sensor will automatically join your network.

Classic Pairing: Put your Z-Wave hub into inclusion mode. Tap the action button on the sensor once. The LED will blink yellow, then flash white/green when successfully paired.

Step 3: Mount the Sensor

The MultiSensor 7 can be mounted several ways:

  • Shelf/Flat Surface: Simply place the sensor on any flat surface
  • Wall Mount: Use the included back-mount arm and double-sided tape or screws
  • Corner Mount: Angle the back-mount arm for corner placement
  • Ceiling/Recessed: Use the optional Recessor accessory (sold separately)

Step 4: Configure in Your Hub

The sensor monitors six environmental factors:

  • Motion: PIR motion detection
  • Temperature: Ambient temperature readings
  • Humidity: Relative humidity percentage
  • Light (Lux): Ambient light levels
  • UV Index: Ultraviolet light measurement
  • Vibration: Detects vibration/tampering

LED Indicator Guide

  • Yellow (on button press): Entering pairing mode
  • White/Green flash: Successfully paired
  • Blue fade in/out: Ready to pair (after reset)
  • Purple: Exclusion mode active

Troubleshooting

  • Motion not detecting: Check PIR sensitivity settings in your hub; ensure sensor isn't blocked
  • Inaccurate readings: Allow 10-15 minutes for sensor to acclimate to environment
  • Not acting as repeater: Must be USB-powered; battery power disables repeater function
  • Factory Reset: Press and hold action button for 20 seconds until red LED flashes
