Step 1: Unbox and Power On

  1. Remove the Echo Show 5 from its packaging along with the included power adapter.
  2. Place the device on a flat surface where you can comfortably see the 5.5-inch display. A nightstand, kitchen counter, or desk works well.
  3. Connect the power adapter to the port on the back of the device and plug it into a wall outlet.
  4. The screen will light up with the Amazon logo and the device will boot up in about 30 seconds.

Step 2: Select Language and Connect to Wi-Fi

  1. The on-screen setup wizard will prompt you to choose your language. Tap your preferred option.
  2. The device will scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Select your network from the list.
  3. Enter your Wi-Fi password using the on-screen keyboard. Tap Connect.

  1. After connecting to Wi-Fi, the device will prompt you to sign in to your Amazon account.
  2. Enter your Amazon email address and password on the touchscreen.
  3. If you have two-factor authentication enabled, enter the verification code sent to your phone or email.
  4. Alternatively, the screen may display a code you can enter at amazon.com/code on another device to authenticate.

Step 4: Confirm Your Settings

  1. The setup wizard will ask you to confirm your time zone and location. These settings enable accurate weather, alarms, and local information.
  2. Choose whether to enable Do Not Disturb scheduling for nighttime hours.
  3. Select your preferred wallpaper or enable rotating backgrounds from your Amazon Photos or curated collections.

Step 5: Set Up the Camera (Optional)

The Echo Show 5 (3rd Gen) includes a 2 MP camera that you can use for video calls and home monitoring.

  1. To disable the camera for privacy, slide the physical camera shutter on top of the device to the left to cover the lens.
  2. To use the camera for video calls, leave the shutter open and enable Drop In or Alexa calling in the Alexa app under Communicate.
  3. To use the device as a home security camera while you are away, enable Home Monitoring in the Alexa app under Devices > Cameras.

Step 6: Customize Your Home Screen

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to access Settings.
  2. Tap Home & Clock to choose a clock face style for the always-on display.
  3. Tap Display to adjust brightness, enable adaptive brightness, and set a night mode schedule.
  4. Enable or disable home screen cards such as weather, reminders, news, and smart home device controls by going to Settings > Home Screen.

Step 7: Add to the Alexa App

  1. Open the Alexa app on your phone and tap Devices.
  2. Your Echo Show 5 should appear automatically. If not, tap + and select Add Device > Amazon Echo > Echo Show.
  3. Assign the device to a room group so you can control it with commands like "Alexa, turn off the bedroom lights."
