What You Will Need

  • Amazon Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen)
  • Smartphone with the Alexa app installed
  • Wi-Fi network (2.4GHz or 5GHz)
  • Power adapter (included)
  • An Amazon account

Step 1: Position and Power On

  1. Remove the Echo Show 8 from its packaging along with the included power adapter.
  2. Choose a location where the 8-inch HD display is easy to view. The Echo Show 8 works well on a kitchen counter, living room shelf, or office desk.
  3. Plug the power adapter into the port on the back of the device and connect it to a wall outlet.
  4. The screen will display the Amazon logo and the device will begin its startup sequence, which takes about 30 to 45 seconds.

Step 2: Run the On-Screen Setup

  1. Select your preferred language from the list on screen.
  2. The Echo Show 8 will scan for nearby Wi-Fi networks. Tap your network name and enter the password.
  3. The device supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Choose 5GHz if your router supports it and the device is within range, for faster streaming and video calls.
  4. Once connected, the device will check for and install any available software updates. This may take several minutes and the device may restart.

Step 3: Sign In to Your Amazon Account

  1. Enter your Amazon account email and password using the on-screen keyboard.
  2. If prompted, complete two-factor authentication by entering the code sent to your registered phone number or authenticator app.
  3. You can also sign in from a computer or phone by visiting amazon.com/code and entering the code displayed on the Echo Show screen.

Step 4: Confirm Location and Preferences

  1. Verify your time zone so alarms, timers, and calendar events display correctly.
  2. Confirm or update your address to receive accurate weather forecasts, traffic information, and local business results.
  3. Choose whether to enable Alexa voice purchasing and set a confirmation code if desired.

Step 5: Configure the Camera and Privacy Settings

The Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) features a 13 MP camera with auto-framing that keeps you centered during video calls.

  1. Slide the physical camera shutter on top of the device to cover or uncover the lens as needed.
  2. To use the camera for video calls, open the Alexa app and navigate to Communicate > Contacts to set up Alexa calling.
  3. Enable Home Monitoring through the Alexa app if you want to use the device as a security camera when you are away from home.
  4. Press the microphone off button on top of the device at any time to electronically disconnect the microphones. A red indicator bar will appear along the bottom of the screen.

Step 6: Set Up Audio and Display Preferences

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Settings.
  2. Under Display, adjust brightness, enable Adaptive Brightness, and configure night mode to dim the screen during sleeping hours.
  3. Under Sounds, adjust the alarm volume, notification sounds, and Do Not Disturb schedules.
  4. To pair the Echo Show 8 with a Bluetooth speaker for enhanced audio, go to Settings > Bluetooth > Pair a New Device.

Step 7: Explore Key Features

  1. Say "Alexa, show me my photos" to set up Amazon Photos as a rotating photo frame during idle time.
  2. Say "Alexa, play music" to stream from Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, or other connected services. Link music services in the Alexa app under Settings > Music & Podcasts.
  3. Swipe left on the home screen to access widgets for smart home controls, routines, weather, and news.
  4. Say "Alexa, show me the front door camera" to view live feeds from compatible smart cameras and doorbells.

Tips

  • The stereo speakers on the Echo Show 8 deliver solid audio for music and podcasts. Place the device against a wall to enhance bass response.
  • Create a multi-room music group in the Alexa app to play synchronized audio across multiple Echo devices.
  • Use visual routines to display custom information on the screen at specific times, such as your calendar and commute time each morning.
