What You'll Need
- Amazon Echo Studio
- Amazon Alexa app (iOS or Android)
- Amazon account
- Wi-Fi network (5GHz recommended for streaming)
- A power outlet near your listening position
Step-by-Step Setup
- Choose your spot carefully before plugging in. The Echo Studio needs at least 6 inches of clearance from walls and the ceiling for its upward-firing speaker to bounce sound properly. Corners will muddy the bass.
- Plug in using the included power adapter. The Studio draws more power than smaller Echo devices, so always use the original adapter.
- Wait for the orange light ring to appear, indicating the device is ready for setup.
- Open the Alexa app:
- Go to Devices, tap "+", then Add Device
- Select Amazon Echo, then Echo Studio
- The app will locate your speaker over Bluetooth
- Connect to your Wi-Fi network. Use 5GHz if available for better streaming bandwidth.
- Let room calibration run. The Echo Studio plays a series of tones and uses its microphones to map your room acoustics. Keep the room quiet during this process, which takes about a minute.
Placement and Sound Tips
The Echo Studio is built around spatial audio, so placement matters more than with most smart speakers. Position it at ear level when seated if possible. Keeping 6 to 12 inches from the back wall gives the upward-firing driver room to create proper height effects without sounding boomy.
Avoid enclosed shelves or cabinets. The speaker fires sound in multiple directions, and blocking any side will compromise the 3D effect. An open shelf or a side table works well. If you notice the bass is overwhelming, pull the speaker further from corners and walls.
Stereo Pairing and Home Theater
For a seriously wide soundstage, pair two Echo Studios as a stereo set. In the Alexa app, go to Devices, tap "+", select Combine Speakers, and choose Stereo Pair. Place the two speakers 4 to 8 feet apart, each at equal distance from your listening position.
You can also use the Echo Studio as a home theater speaker with a Fire TV Stick 4K or later. The Alexa app will walk you through linking your Fire TV to the Studio for Dolby Atmos movie audio.
Smart Home Integration
The Echo Studio includes a built-in Zigbee hub, which means it can directly connect compatible Zigbee smart home devices like Philips Hue bulbs and certain sensors without needing a separate bridge. Add Zigbee devices through the Alexa app under Devices. This makes the Studio a solid central hub for a room full of smart gadgets.
Troubleshooting
- Room calibration sounds wrong: Re-run calibration from Settings in the Alexa app. Make sure the room is quiet during the process and that nothing is blocking the top or sides of the speaker.
- Dolby Atmos not working: Atmos requires compatible content from services like Amazon Music Unlimited or Apple Music. Standard Spotify streams do not include Atmos. Also verify that spatial audio is enabled in your Echo Studio device settings.
- Audio sounds flat or muffled: Check placement. The speaker needs open space around it, especially above. Also try adjusting the equalizer in the Alexa app under your device settings.
- Stereo pair out of sync: Make sure both Studios are assigned to the same room in the Alexa app and are running the same firmware version. Restart both units if sync issues persist.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the Action button for 20 or more seconds until the light ring turns orange. The device will restart in setup mode.
