What You Will Need
- Amazon eero 6+ (single unit or multi-pack)
- Smartphone with the eero app installed
- An active internet connection from your ISP
- Your ISP-provided modem
- An Ethernet cable (included)
- An Amazon account
Step 1: Download the eero App
- Download the eero app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Open the app and sign in with your Amazon account or create a new eero account using your email or phone number.
- Tap Set Up a New eero to begin.
Step 2: Prepare Your Modem
- Disconnect your old router from the modem, if applicable. The eero 6+ will replace your existing router.
- If your ISP provided a modem/router combo unit, set it to bridge mode so the eero handles all routing. Check your ISP's documentation for how to enable bridge mode.
- Power cycle the modem by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in. Wait 1 to 2 minutes for it to fully restart.
Step 3: Connect the Gateway eero 6+
- Use the included Ethernet cable to connect your modem's LAN port to one of the two Ethernet ports on the back of the eero 6+.
- Plug the eero 6+ into a power outlet using the included adapter.
- Wait about 60 seconds for the LED on the front to turn pulsing blue, indicating it is ready for setup.
- Keep the gateway eero in a central, open location for the best coverage. Avoid closets, basements, and areas surrounded by thick walls.
Step 4: Complete Setup in the eero App
- The app will use Bluetooth to detect the nearby eero 6+. Tap the device when it appears.
- Assign a location name to the eero, such as "Living Room" or "Main Floor."
- Create your Wi-Fi network name and password. The eero 6+ supports Wi-Fi 6 on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands with dual-band capability.
- The eero will establish an internet connection and run a speed test. Wait 2 to 3 minutes for the process to complete.
- Once the LED turns solid white, the eero is online and ready.
Step 5: Add More eero Units for Whole-Home Coverage
- If you have additional eero 6+ units, place the next one approximately halfway between the gateway and the area that needs coverage. Keep units within 40 to 50 feet of each other for strong mesh performance.
- Plug the unit into a power outlet and wait for the LED to pulse blue.
- The eero app will prompt you to add the new device. Tap Add Another eero and follow the prompts.
- Repeat for any additional units. Each eero 6+ covers up to 1,500 square feet. A three-pack covers up to 4,500 square feet.
Step 6: Connect Your Devices
- On your phones, computers, smart home devices, and other Wi-Fi-enabled equipment, go to Wi-Fi settings and select your new eero network.
- Enter the password you created during setup.
- The eero automatically assigns each device to the optimal band (2.4GHz or 5GHz) and the nearest eero unit. You do not need to manage separate network names for each band.
Step 7: Configure Network Preferences
- In the eero app, go to Settings to explore network options.
- Set up Family Profiles to group devices by person and create schedules to pause the internet for specific profiles, such as turning off Wi-Fi for children at bedtime.
- Consider subscribing to eero Secure for ad blocking, advanced threat protection, content filtering, and a built-in VPN.
- Use the second Ethernet port on any eero 6+ unit to hardwire devices like gaming consoles, smart TVs, or desktop computers for the most stable connection.
Tips
- The eero 6+ supports speeds up to 1 Gbps, making it well-suited for internet plans up to gigabit speeds.
- If you experience dead zones, move the affected eero unit closer to the gateway or reposition it to a more open location.
- The eero 6+ works as a Thread border router, supporting Thread-enabled smart home devices for low-latency, reliable connections.
- Use the eero app's Activity tab to monitor which devices are using the most bandwidth and identify any connectivity issues.
- Software updates are installed automatically in the background, keeping your network secure without any action on your part.
