What You Will Need
- Amazon eero Pro 6E (single unit or multi-pack)
- Smartphone with the eero app installed
- An active internet connection from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)
- Your ISP-provided modem (or modem/router combo set to bridge mode)
- An Ethernet cable (included)
- An Amazon account
Step 1: Download the eero App and Create an Account
- Download the eero app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Open the app and create an eero account using your email address or phone number, or sign in with your Amazon account.
- The app will guide you through the entire setup process step by step.
Step 2: Connect Your Gateway eero
The first eero unit you set up acts as the gateway, connecting directly to your modem.
- If you have a modem/router combo from your ISP, put it into bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues. Consult your ISP's documentation for instructions.
- Unplug your existing modem and wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in and wait for it to fully restart.
- Connect the included Ethernet cable from your modem's LAN port to the port on the back of the eero Pro 6E.
- Plug the eero Pro 6E into a power outlet using the included power adapter. The LED on the front will blink white while it boots up.
- Wait for the LED to pulse blue, indicating the device is ready for setup.
Step 3: Set Up the Gateway in the eero App
- In the eero app, tap Set Up a New eero.
- The app will search for the nearby eero using Bluetooth. When it finds the device, tap it to continue.
- Choose a location name for this eero, such as "Living Room" or "Office." This helps identify it on the network.
- Create your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password. Choose a strong password you will remember. The eero Pro 6E supports Wi-Fi 6E on the 6GHz band in addition to 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
- The eero will connect to the internet and verify the connection. This takes about 2 to 3 minutes.
Step 4: Add Additional eero Units
If you purchased a multi-pack, now add the additional eero units to create your mesh network.
- Place the second eero in a location roughly halfway between the gateway eero and the area where you need better coverage. Avoid placing it behind large metal objects or in enclosed cabinets.
- Plug the second eero into a power outlet and wait for the LED to pulse blue.
- The eero app will prompt you to add the next device. Tap Add Another eero and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Repeat for any additional eero units. For a three-pack, place the third unit to extend coverage to the farthest areas of your home.
- The eero Pro 6E units communicate wirelessly with each other using a dedicated tri-band backhaul, so you do not need Ethernet cables between them unless you prefer a wired backhaul for maximum speed.
Step 5: Configure Network Settings
- In the eero app, tap Settings to customize your network.
- Enable eero Secure (subscription required) for advanced security features including ad blocking, content filtering, and threat detection.
- Set up profiles for family members to manage device access, set content filters, and schedule internet pauses for specific devices.
- Enable DNS over HTTPS under Settings > Network Settings > DNS for added privacy.
Step 6: Connect Your Devices
- On each device you want to connect (phones, laptops, smart home devices), go to Wi-Fi settings and select your new eero network name.
- Enter the password you created during setup.
- The eero system automatically steers devices to the best band (2.4GHz, 5GHz, or 6GHz) and the nearest eero unit for optimal performance.
- Wi-Fi 6E capable devices will automatically use the 6GHz band for the fastest speeds and lowest latency.
Tips
- The eero Pro 6E covers up to 2,000 square feet per unit. A three-pack can cover up to 6,000 square feet.
- For the best mesh performance, keep eero units no more than 40 to 50 feet apart with minimal walls between them.
- The eero Pro 6E includes two Ethernet ports on the back, so you can hardwire devices like gaming consoles, desktop computers, or smart TV boxes for maximum speed.
- The eero acts as a Thread border router and Zigbee hub, allowing compatible smart home devices to connect directly without additional hubs.
- Manage your network remotely from anywhere using the eero app on your phone.
