What You Will Need
- Amazon Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen)
- Smartphone with the Amazon Alexa app (optional but recommended)
- Wi-Fi network (2.4GHz or 5GHz, Wi-Fi 6E supported)
- HDMI cable (included)
- Ethernet adapter or cable (optional, for wired connections)
- Power adapter (included)
- A TV with an HDMI port
- An Amazon account
Step 1: Connect the Fire TV Cube to Your TV
- Place the Fire TV Cube near your TV. The 3rd Gen model is a compact cube that sits next to your entertainment center rather than plugging into an HDMI port directly.
- Connect the included HDMI cable from the HDMI port on the back of the Fire TV Cube to an available HDMI input on your TV.
- If you want to control your cable box, soundbar, or A/V receiver with the Fire TV Cube, connect the HDMI output of those devices to the Fire TV Cube's HDMI input port. This enables HDMI pass-through so you can switch inputs with voice commands.
- Plug the included power adapter into the Fire TV Cube and connect it to a wall outlet.
Step 2: Power On and Pair the Remote
- Turn on your TV and switch to the HDMI input where the Fire TV Cube is connected.
- The Fire TV Cube will boot up and display the Fire TV logo.
- The Alexa Voice Remote (included) should pair automatically. If it does not, press and hold the Home button on the remote for 10 seconds to initiate pairing.
- Select your language using the remote's navigation ring.
Step 3: Connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet
- The Fire TV Cube will scan for Wi-Fi networks. Select your network and enter the password.
- The 3rd Gen model supports Wi-Fi 6E, so if you have a Wi-Fi 6E router, you can take advantage of the 6GHz band for the fastest, lowest-latency streaming.
- For the most reliable 4K streaming, consider using the built-in Ethernet port on the back of the Fire TV Cube. Connect an Ethernet cable directly from your router to the Cube.
Step 4: Sign In to Your Amazon Account
- The setup wizard will prompt you to sign in to your Amazon account.
- You can sign in directly on-screen using the remote or use the faster method: visit amazon.com/code on your phone or computer and enter the code displayed on the TV.
- Once signed in, the device will sync your preferences, apps, and purchased content.
Step 5: Set Up TV Controls
The Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen) can control your TV, soundbar, and other devices using built-in infrared (IR) blasters and HDMI-CEC.
- During setup, the wizard will guide you through configuring TV controls. Select your TV brand from the list.
- The Fire TV Cube will send a test signal. Confirm whether your TV turned off and on correctly.
- If you have a soundbar or A/V receiver, set it up as well so Alexa can control volume and power for your entire entertainment system.
- Once configured, say "Alexa, turn off the TV" or "Alexa, volume up" to control your devices hands-free, even when the TV is off.
Step 6: Install Streaming Apps
- The Fire TV Cube comes with Amazon Prime Video pre-installed. Navigate to the App Store to install additional services.
- Popular streaming apps include Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, YouTube, Apple TV+, and Paramount+. Search for each by name and select Download.
- Sign in to each streaming service with your existing account credentials.
- The Fire TV Cube supports 4K Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Dolby Atmos audio when available from the streaming app and your TV supports it.
Step 7: Explore Hands-Free Alexa
The Fire TV Cube has built-in far-field microphones, allowing you to use Alexa hands-free without the remote.
- Say "Alexa, play Stranger Things on Netflix" to launch content by voice.
- Say "Alexa, show me the front door camera" to view compatible smart home cameras on your TV screen.
- Say "Alexa, what's the weather?" to display weather information even while watching content.
- The built-in speaker lets Alexa respond even when your TV is off, effectively making the Fire TV Cube a standalone Echo device.
Tips
- The Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen) features an octa-core processor, making it the fastest Fire TV device. Apps and menus load noticeably faster than previous models.
- Use the Super Resolution Upscaling feature to enhance HD content to near-4K quality. Enable it in Settings > Display & Sounds > Display.
- If you use a USB webcam, you can make Alexa video calls on your TV screen.
- Press the microphone off button on top of the Cube to disable the built-in microphones for privacy.
