- Press and hold the CONNECT button on the back of the speaker until the LED blinks
- The app discovers the speaker and walks you through setup
- Connect to your Wi-Fi network and enter the password when prompted.
- Set up your music services by linking accounts in the HEOS app.
- Create a stereo pair if you have a second Home 250 (optional).
Placement and Sound Tips
The Home 250 is Denon's mid-size wireless speaker, and it delivers a wider soundstage than the smaller Home 150 thanks to its larger driver array. Horizontal placement is how Denon designed this speaker to be used, with the drivers spaced for a natural stereo image from a single unit.
Place it on a solid, stable surface. A TV console, bookshelf, or countertop all work. Give the speaker at least 3 to 4 inches of clearance behind it since the bass reflex port is on the back. Pushing it against a wall will muddy the bass and reduce clarity on the low end.
The Home 250 supports high-resolution audio up to 24-bit/192kHz, so it can handle lossless streaming services and FLAC files without any downsampling. For the best audio quality, stream over Wi-Fi rather than Bluetooth, which compresses the signal.
Inputs and Connectivity
In addition to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the Home 250 has a USB port on the back for playing local music files from a USB drive. The drive needs to be formatted as FAT32 for the speaker to read it. Browse your USB content through the HEOS app once connected.
There is also a 3.5mm aux input for connecting an external audio source like a phone, tablet, or CD player. Select the aux input in the HEOS app to switch to it.
Stereo Pair and Multi-Room
Two Home 250 speakers create a powerful stereo pair with dedicated left and right channels. The difference in sound width and depth compared to a single unit is dramatic. Set this up in the HEOS app under the room settings. Both units need to be the same model.
As part of the HEOS ecosystem, the Home 250 groups with other Denon Home speakers and HEOS-enabled devices for multi-room playback. AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect provide additional streaming and grouping options.
Troubleshooting
- USB playback not working: Make sure the USB drive is formatted as FAT32. NTFS and exFAT formatted drives are not supported. Also verify that your music files are in a supported format (MP3, FLAC, WAV, etc.).
- Network issues or dropouts: If Wi-Fi is unreliable at the speaker's location, try using the 5GHz band for less interference. For the most stable connection, some owners use a USB Ethernet adapter to wire the speaker directly to their router.
- HEOS app not finding the speaker: Make sure your phone and the speaker are on the same Wi-Fi network. Hold the CONNECT button on the back for 5 seconds until the LED flashes, then try adding it again in the app.
- Sound quality seems compressed: If you are streaming over Bluetooth, switch to Wi-Fi for uncompressed audio. Also check the HEOS app to make sure the streaming quality is set to high in the music service settings.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the CONNECT button and the Mute button together for about 5 seconds. The LED will flash, and the speaker will restart in setup mode.
