Placement and Sound Tips
The Citation One has a premium woven fabric exterior designed by Kvadrat, so it looks good out in the open. Place it on a bookshelf, kitchen counter, or side table where it can be seen and heard. The speaker fires sound forward and slightly upward, so placing it at about waist to chest height on a shelf gives the best results.
Keep it a few inches from the back wall. The bass port on the rear needs room to push air; pressing it flat against a wall can make the low end sound boomy or distorted. On a solid wooden shelf or countertop, you get a bit of natural resonance that fills out the sound nicely.
The touch controls on top let you adjust volume and play/pause without pulling out your phone. A simple tap or swipe on the surface handles the basics.
Multi-Room Audio
Since the Citation One uses Google Assistant, it works with any other Chromecast-enabled or Google Assistant speaker for multi-room audio. Create a speaker group in the Google Home app by tapping "+" and selecting "Create speaker group." Add whatever devices you want and name the group. Then say "Hey Google, play music on [group name]" and everything plays in sync.
You can also pair two Citation One speakers as a stereo pair through the Google Home app for wider sound in a single room.
Smart Home Integration
Google Assistant gives the Citation One full smart home control. Any device connected to your Google Home ecosystem responds to voice commands through this speaker. Lights, thermostats, plugs, cameras -- if it works with Google Home, you can control it here. Create routines for automated sequences like "Hey Google, good night" to turn off all the lights and lock the doors.
Troubleshooting
- Speaker not discovered during setup: Make sure the speaker is powered on and the light is active on top. Restart the speaker by unplugging it for 10 seconds. Also restart the Google Home app if it gets stuck searching.
- Wi-Fi connection issues: Try the 2.4GHz band if the speaker struggles to stay connected on 5GHz. The 2.4GHz band has better range through walls. Also verify that your router is not blocking new devices.
- Microphone not responding: Check the mute button on the back of the speaker. When muted, the LED changes color. Toggle it off to re-enable the microphone. Speaking clearly and from within about 15 feet works best.
- Audio sounds muffled: Check that the fabric grille is not obstructed by anything. Also try pulling the speaker away from the wall to give the bass port more room.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the mute button and the volume down button together for about 10 seconds until you hear a confirmation tone. The speaker will restart in setup mode.
