What You'll Need

  • Hubitat Elevation C-8 hub
  • Ethernet cable (included)
  • Power adapter (included)
  • Computer or smartphone with web browser
  • Router with available Ethernet port
  • Hubitat account (optional for cloud features)

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Connect Ethernet: Plug the Ethernet cable into the hub and your router. Hubitat requires a wired connection.
  2. Connect power: Plug in the power adapter. The LED will illuminate as the hub boots.
  3. Wait for ready: Give the hub about 2 minutes to fully boot. The LED will turn green when ready.
  4. Find your hub: Open a web browser and go to http://findmyhub.hubitat.com to locate your hub on the network.
  5. Access the interface: Click on your hub or enter its IP address directly (e.g., http://192.168.1.xxx).
  6. Create admin account: Set up your hub administrator username and password.
  7. Register hub (optional): Create a Hubitat account for cloud backup and remote access features.
  8. Update firmware: Go to Settings → Check for Updates and install any available updates.
  9. Configure Zigbee: Go to Settings → Zigbee Details to initialize the Zigbee radio.
  10. Configure Z-Wave: Go to Settings → Z-Wave Details to initialize the Z-Wave radio.

  • Matter controller support
  • Advanced Rule Machine for automations
  • Dashboards for custom interfaces
  • Hubitat Package Manager for community apps

Troubleshooting

  • Can't find hub: Ensure Ethernet is connected. Check router's connected devices list for the hub's IP. Try accessing directly via IP address.
  • LED meanings: Green = normal operation. Blue = booting. Red = error (check logs). Amber = firmware update in progress.
  • Devices not responding: Hubitat is 100% local—internet outage won't affect local devices. Check device health in the Devices menu. Try refreshing the device.
  • Zigbee devices dropping: Ensure Zigbee channel doesn't conflict with Wi-Fi. Add more Zigbee repeaters (powered devices). Keep hub away from USB 3.0 devices.
  • Z-Wave mesh issues: Perform Z-Wave repair from Settings. Add Z-Wave repeaters. Exclude and re-include problematic devices.
