What You'll Need
- Leviton Decora Smart Dimmer (Matter version, model D2MD1)
- Neutral wire at switch location (required)
- Dimmable LED, CFL, or incandescent bulbs
- Matter-compatible smart home controller
- Screwdriver and voltage tester
- 2.4GHz WiFi network
Step-by-Step Setup
- Turn off power: Switch off the circuit breaker. Use a voltage tester to confirm power is off.
- Remove existing switch: Unscrew faceplate and switch. Document wire positions with a photo.
- Connect ground wire: Attach green or bare copper wire to the green ground screw.
- Connect neutral: Join the white neutral wire to the white lead using the included wire nut.
- Connect line and load: Attach hot wire to "Line" terminal and wire to light fixture to "Load" terminal.
- Install dimmer: Push wires back, mount dimmer with screws, and attach faceplate.
- Power on: Turn on breaker. Dimmer LED should illuminate and light should respond to paddle.
- Calibrate dimmer: Tap lower paddle 3 times to set minimum brightness for your bulb type.
- Add to Matter: Scan QR code with your smart home app to pair the dimmer.

Troubleshooting
- Lights flicker at low levels: Adjust minimum brightness. Some LEDs require minimum 20% level.
- Dimmer buzzes: May indicate incompatible bulbs. Use Leviton-recommended LED bulbs.
- Doesn't reach full brightness: Calibrate high trim by tapping upper paddle 3 times at full bright.
- Won't pair: Factory reset: Press and hold both paddles for 7 seconds until LED flashes rapidly.
- Responds slowly: Check for WiFi interference. Ensure router is within reasonable range.
