What's in the Box
Your Lutron Pico Remote Control package includes the Pico remote, a wallplate mounting bracket with screws, and a quick start guide. The Pico is a compact, battery-powered wireless remote that uses Lutron's Clear Connect RF protocol to communicate with your Caseta Smart Bridge. It comes pre-loaded with a CR2032 coin-cell battery that provides up to 10 years of use. Depending on the model, your Pico may have two, three, four, or five buttons, each designed for specific device types such as lights, fans, shades, or audio.
Prerequisites
Before setting up the Pico remote, confirm that you have:
- A Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge powered on and connected to your router
- At least one Caseta device already paired to the bridge (dimmer, switch, fan control, plug, or shade)
- The Lutron Caseta app installed on your iOS or Android device
- A Phillips screwdriver if you intend to wall-mount the remote
The Pico remote cannot operate Caseta devices directly without a bridge. All commands pass through the Smart Bridge, which then relays instructions to the target device using Clear Connect RF.
Step-by-Step Setup
- Open the Lutron Caseta app and tap the menu icon, then select "Add Device."
- Choose "Remotes" from the device category list, then select "Pico Remote."
- The app will prompt you to press and release the top button on the Pico. This sends a unique ID signal to the bridge for identification.
- Once detected, select the device, room, or scene you want the Pico to control. You can assign it to a single device or a group of devices within a room.
- Give the Pico a descriptive name such as "Bedroom Pico" or "Living Room Remote" and assign it to the appropriate room.
- Test the remote by pressing each button to confirm it controls the assigned device correctly. The top button turns on or raises, the bottom button turns off or lowers, and the center button activates the favorite or preset level.
Wall Mounting Options
The included wallplate bracket allows you to mount the Pico on any flat surface or over a standard electrical box. This is especially useful for creating multi-location switching. For example, if you have a hallway light controlled by a Caseta dimmer at one end, you can mount a Pico at the other end to act as a second switch. The Pico attaches to the bracket magnetically, so it can be easily removed for handheld use and snapped back into place. Lutron also sells tabletop pedestals for placing the Pico on a nightstand or end table.
Smart Home Integration Tips
While the Pico remote itself does not appear in voice assistants like Alexa or HomeKit, the devices and scenes it controls do. Program the center "favorite" button in the Caseta app to set a specific dimming level or trigger a multi-device scene. For instance, configure it to set your bedroom lights to 30% for a relaxed evening atmosphere. You can also assign a Pico to control a "scene" that adjusts multiple devices at once, such as dimming the dining room, turning off the kitchen, and setting the living room to a warm glow.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the Pico does not pair with the bridge, ensure the bridge shows two solid green LEDs and that you are within 30 feet during the pairing attempt. If the Pico was previously paired to a different bridge, reset it by pressing and holding both the top and bottom buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds until the small LED on the remote blinks. If the remote intermittently fails to control devices, the CR2032 battery may be running low. Pop off the back cover by pressing the tab at the bottom and replace the battery with the positive side facing up.
