What You Will Need

  • Ring Alarm Pro Base Station
  • Ring app (iOS or Android) with an active account
  • A 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network (or use the Alarm Pro as your WiFi router)
  • Ethernet cable (included)
  • Your modem or existing router
  • Power adapter (included)

Understanding the Ring Alarm Pro

The Ring Alarm Pro Base Station serves as both a security system hub and an eero WiFi 6 router. It can replace your existing WiFi router or work alongside it. As a security hub, it communicates with Ring Alarm sensors and accessories via Z-Wave. As a router, it provides whole-home WiFi coverage with eero mesh networking support.

Step 1: Position the Base Station

  1. Place the Alarm Pro in a central location in your home. Since it doubles as a WiFi router, central placement ensures the best WiFi coverage throughout your home.
  2. Place it on a flat surface like a shelf or table at an elevated position. Avoid enclosing it in a cabinet, as this can reduce WiFi performance.
  3. Keep it away from other electronic devices that may cause wireless interference, such as microwaves or baby monitors.

Step 2: Connect the Base Station

  1. Connect the included Ethernet cable from your modem (or existing router's LAN port) to the WAN port on the back of the Alarm Pro.
  2. Plug in the power adapter and connect it to the Base Station.
  3. Wait for the Base Station's LED ring to begin flashing. This indicates it is powered on and ready for setup.

Step 3: Set Up in the Ring App

  1. Open the Ring app and tap Set Up a Device.
  2. Select Security Devices, then choose Alarm Pro Base Station.
  3. Scan the QR code on the bottom of the Base Station.
  4. The app will guide you through network configuration. You can choose to:
    • Replace your router — The Alarm Pro becomes your primary WiFi router. Your modem connects directly to it via Ethernet.
    • Extend your network — The Alarm Pro works alongside your existing router, adding eero mesh coverage.
  5. Create or join an eero WiFi network. Set your network name (SSID) and password.
  6. Wait for the setup to complete. The LED ring will turn solid white when online.

Step 4: Add Ring Alarm Sensors

With the Base Station online, you can now add Ring Alarm security devices:

  1. In the Ring app, tap Set Up a Device and select Security Devices.
  2. Choose the specific sensor type (contact sensor, motion detector, keypad, etc.).
  3. Follow the pairing instructions for each device. Sensors connect to the Base Station via Z-Wave.

Step 5: Configure Security Settings

  • Alarm Modes — Set up Home, Away, and Disarmed modes. Choose which sensors are active in each mode.
  • Entry and Exit Delays — Configure how long you have to disarm the system when entering and how long before arming activates when leaving.
  • Emergency Contacts — Add emergency contact phone numbers for alarm events.
  • Professional Monitoring — With a Ring Protect Pro subscription, enable 24/7 professional monitoring. The monitoring center will dispatch police, fire, or medical services when an alarm is triggered.
  • Cellular Backup — The Alarm Pro includes built-in cellular backup. If your internet goes down, the system stays connected via cellular (requires Ring Protect Pro).

Tips for Best Performance

  • The built-in eero WiFi 6 supports speeds up to 900 Mbps and covers up to 1,500 square feet. Add eero extenders for larger homes.
  • The Alarm Pro includes a built-in 24-hour backup battery. If power goes out, your security system remains active.
  • The Base Station supports up to 100+ Z-Wave devices, so you can build out an extensive sensor network.
  • A Ring Protect Pro subscription unlocks professional monitoring, cellular backup, extended video history for all Ring cameras, and eero Secure network protection.
