What's in the Box

The Roku Streaming Stick 4K package includes: the Roku Streaming Stick 4K device, a Roku Voice Remote with batteries, a USB power cable, a power adapter, and the quick start guide. Verify all items are present before starting the setup process.

Prerequisites

Gather the following before you begin:

  • A TV with an available HDMI port — the Streaming Stick plugs directly into the HDMI port
  • A WiFi network (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) and the password
  • A Roku account — create one at roku.com/signup or during the on-device setup
  • Optional: the Roku app on your smartphone for easier text input and additional remote features

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Plug the Streaming Stick into your TV: Insert the Roku Streaming Stick 4K directly into an available HDMI port on your TV. If the stick is too wide to fit comfortably next to other cables, use an HDMI extender (available separately) to create more space.
  2. Connect to power: Plug the USB power cable into the micro USB port on the Streaming Stick, then connect the other end to the included power adapter. Plug the adapter into a wall outlet. While some TVs have USB ports that can power the stick, Roku recommends using the included adapter for consistent performance, especially for 4K HDR streaming.
  3. Turn on your TV and select the HDMI input: Switch your TV to the HDMI input where you plugged in the Streaming Stick. The Roku logo should appear within a few seconds.
  4. Pair the Roku Voice Remote: Insert the included batteries into the remote. It should pair automatically with the Streaming Stick. If it doesn't, press and hold the pairing button located inside the battery compartment for 3 seconds until the status light flashes.
  5. Follow the on-screen setup: Choose your language, then connect to your WiFi network by selecting it from the list and entering your password. The Roku Streaming Stick 4K supports dual-band WiFi with long-range wireless for better connectivity. After connecting, the device will check for and install any available software updates automatically.
  6. Activate your device: An activation code will appear on screen. Visit roku.com/link from a computer or phone, log in to your Roku account, and enter the code. This links your Streaming Stick to your account for managing channels and subscriptions.
  7. Set up your display: The Roku Streaming Stick 4K will automatically detect your TV's capabilities, including 4K, HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision support. Confirm the display settings match your TV's specifications for the best picture quality.
  8. Add streaming channels: Browse the Roku Channel Store to add your preferred apps, such as Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Max, Amazon Prime Video, and Peacock. Each app will require you to sign in with your existing subscription credentials.

Smart Home Integration Tips

The Roku Streaming Stick 4K integrates with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple AirPlay. Link the Roku skill in the Alexa or Google Home app to use commands like "Alexa, turn on Roku" or "Hey Google, play Stranger Things on Netflix." Apple AirPlay support allows you to cast content from iPhones, iPads, and Macs directly to your TV through the Streaming Stick. The included Roku Voice Remote lets you press the voice button and say commands like "Show me comedies" or "Launch YouTube" for quick, hands-free navigation.

Quick Troubleshooting

If nothing appears on your TV after plugging in the stick, try a different HDMI port. Make sure you're using the included power adapter rather than a TV USB port, as insufficient power can cause startup failures. If WiFi drops during setup, move your router closer or remove obstructions between the router and the stick. If the remote won't pair, remove and reinstall the batteries, then hold the pairing button for 3 seconds. For ongoing performance issues, restart the device by going to Settings, then System, then System Restart from the Roku home screen.
