What You'll Need
- Sonos Move 2
- Sonos app (iOS or Android)
- Wi-Fi network (for home setup)
- Included charging base
Step-by-Step Setup
- Place the Move 2 on its charging base and let it charge for at least 15 to 20 minutes before starting setup. The battery indicator on the back shows the current level.
- Download the Sonos app and sign in to your Sonos account.
- Press the power button on the back of the speaker to turn it on. The LED will indicate it is ready.
- Add the speaker in the Sonos app:
- Tap "Add" and select Move 2
- Follow the on-screen setup wizard
- Connect to your Wi-Fi network for home use. The Move 2 uses Wi-Fi when at home and switches to Bluetooth when you take it out.
- Assign a room name for the speaker in your Sonos system.
- Enable a voice assistant if you want hands-free control. The Move 2 supports Alexa and Sonos Voice Control.
Placement and Sound Tips
When using the Move 2 indoors on its charging base, treat it like any other premium Sonos speaker. Place it on a solid surface with a couple of inches behind it for the rear-facing woofer to breathe. The speaker sounds best at ear level when seated.
For outdoor use, the IP56 rating means it handles splashes and dust but is not meant for submersion. Keep it out of direct rain and away from pool water. Setting it on a patio table works well for backyard gatherings.
The Move 2 has Automatic Trueplay, which re-calibrates the sound every time you move it to a new spot. You do not need to run any manual tuning. Pick it up from the living room, bring it to the patio, and the speaker adjusts on its own after a few seconds.
Battery and Charging
The Move 2 gets up to 24 hours on a full charge, which is enough for a full day of music at moderate volume. When you are done, just drop it back on the charging base. You can also charge via USB-C if you do not have the base handy. A full charge from empty takes about 3 hours.
The speaker goes into a low-power suspend mode after 30 minutes of inactivity to preserve battery. It wakes up quickly when you press the play button or use voice commands.
Multi-Room Audio
When the Move 2 is connected to Wi-Fi at home, it participates in your Sonos multi-room system just like any wired speaker. Group it with other Sonos speakers for synchronized playback. When you pick it up and leave Wi-Fi range, it automatically switches to Bluetooth so you can keep listening from your phone.
Troubleshooting
- Switching to Bluetooth mode: Press the Bluetooth button on the back. The LED changes to indicate Bluetooth mode. When you return home, the speaker should automatically reconnect to Wi-Fi within a minute or two.
- Battery not charging: Make sure the Move 2 is seated properly on the charging base. The metal contacts on the bottom of the speaker need to align with the base. Clean any debris from the contacts with a dry cloth. If using USB-C, try a different cable.
- Speaker will not turn on: If the battery is completely dead, place it on the charging base and wait at least 5 minutes before trying to power on. The LED on the back should show a charging indicator.
- Wi-Fi reconnection slow after Bluetooth: Move the speaker closer to your router when returning home. If it does not switch back to Wi-Fi automatically, press and hold the Bluetooth button to turn off Bluetooth, which forces a Wi-Fi reconnect.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the power button and the Connect button together for about 5 seconds until the LED flashes. The speaker will restart in setup mode.
