What's in the Box
Your Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights (100ft) package includes 100 feet of permanent outdoor light fixtures, a control box, a power adapter, mounting clips with screws, wire connectors, and a quick start guide. Unlike temporary string lights, these are designed for semi-permanent installation along your roofline, eaves, or architectural edges, replacing the need for seasonal holiday light installation. Each light point is individually addressable with RGBIC technology, so you can create any color combination or animated effect year-round.
Prerequisites
- A smartphone with the Govee Home app installed (available on iOS and Android)
- A stable 2.4GHz WiFi network that reaches the installation area
- A Govee Home account created and verified
- A GFCI-protected outdoor power outlet accessible near the starting point of your installation
- A sturdy ladder tall enough to safely reach your roofline or eaves
- A drill or screwdriver for attaching mounting clips
- A helper for safety when working at height
- Dry weather conditions during installation
Planning Your Installation
Measure the roofline, eave, or edge where you plan to install the lights. The 100-foot length covers most single-story home fronts and many two-story fronts as well. Start planning from the location of your outdoor power outlet, as the control box needs to be connected at one end of the light string. If your roofline is shorter than 100 feet, the excess can be tucked neatly behind a downspout or fascia board. Sketch a rough plan noting corners, peaks, and any obstacles you will need to route around.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Begin by installing mounting clips along your roofline or eave. Attach each clip using the included screws, spacing them every 6 to 8 inches for a secure hold. Place clips at every corner, peak, and direction change.
- Starting at the end nearest to your power outlet and control box, snap the light fixtures into the mounting clips one section at a time. Work methodically along the roofline, ensuring each fixture is securely seated in its clip.
- At corners and peaks, angle the light string carefully. The permanent lights are designed with some flexibility at these junction points, but avoid sharp bends that could stress the wiring.
- Use wire connectors at any junction points where separate sections need to be joined, following the instructions in the quick start guide.
- Once all sections are mounted, route the cable from the first fixture down to the control box location. Secure the cable along the wall using additional clips to keep it tidy.
- Position the control box in a sheltered location such as under a soffit or in a weatherproof enclosure. Connect the power adapter and plug it into a GFCI-protected outlet.
App Pairing
- Power on the system. The lights will illuminate and the control box indicator will flash for pairing.
- Open the Govee Home app and tap "+" to add a new device.
- Select the Permanent Outdoor Lights from the device list or scan the QR code.
- Enable Bluetooth, pair the device, and connect to your 2.4GHz WiFi network.
- The app may ask you to confirm the number of light points and your layout configuration for optimal scene effects.
- Name the lights, such as "Roofline Lights" or "House Front Lights."
Smart Home Integration Tips
The Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights work with Alexa and Google Assistant. Set up voice commands like "Alexa, set the house lights to warm white" for everyday use, or "Hey Google, turn on holiday mode" for festive occasions. The RGBIC technology lets you create holiday themes without ever climbing a ladder again. Program red and green for Christmas, orange and purple for Halloween, red white and blue for the Fourth of July, or any custom combination. Schedule the lights to turn on at sunset and off at midnight automatically through the Govee Home app.
Quick Troubleshooting
If a section of lights does not illuminate, check the wire connectors at that section's junction point. A loose connection is the most common cause of dead sections. If WiFi connectivity is weak at the control box location, consider a WiFi extender or reposition the control box closer to your router's signal range. After severe weather, inspect the mounting clips to ensure none have come loose. If the entire system does not power on, verify the GFCI outlet has not tripped and reset it if necessary.
