What You Will Need

  • Philips Hue Lily Outdoor Spot Light (3-Pack)
  • A Philips Hue Bridge (set up and connected to your router)
  • The included low-voltage power supply unit (PSU)
  • The included ground stakes
  • A weatherproof outdoor power outlet (GFCI-protected recommended)
  • A smartphone or tablet with the Philips Hue app installed
  • A garden trowel or small shovel (optional, for hiding cables)

Step 1: Plan Your Landscape Lighting Layout

Before installing anything, walk around your property and decide which features you want to highlight. The Lily spot lights are designed for uplighting and work best when aimed at:

  • Trees or large shrubs to create dramatic shadows and depth
  • Architectural features like columns, stone walls, or textured surfaces
  • Garden statues or focal points
  • Pathways and driveways for safety illumination

With three lights in the pack, plan a balanced arrangement. Space them evenly or group them to highlight a single feature from different angles.

Step 2: Verify Zigbee Range

The Lily lights communicate with your Hue Bridge via Zigbee. Make sure the installation locations are within range. If the lights will be far from the Bridge, install a Hue bulb in an outdoor porch fixture between the Bridge and the garden lights to extend the Zigbee mesh network.

Step 3: Connect the Lights to the Power Supply

The 3-pack comes with a low-voltage power supply with a built-in cable splitter that connects all three lights to a single PSU. This is a safe, low-voltage system that does not require an electrician.

  1. Connect each Lily spotlight to the power supply using the included extension cables. The connectors are weatherproof twist-lock type.
  2. Route cables between the lights, keeping them along garden beds or under mulch where possible.
  3. Connect the power supply to the outdoor outlet but do not plug it in yet.

Step 4: Position and Stake the Lights

  1. Insert the ground stake into each Lily light by attaching it to the base.
  2. Push the stake into the ground at your chosen location. The soil should be firm enough to hold the stake securely.
  3. Adjust the angle of the light head. The Lily has an adjustable head that tilts and rotates, allowing you to aim the beam precisely at your target feature.
  4. Repeat for all three lights.

Step 5: Bury the Cables

For a clean installation, use a garden trowel to dig a shallow trench (2 to 3 inches deep) along the cable routes. Lay the cables in the trench and cover them with soil or mulch. This protects the cables from lawn mowers, foot traffic, and weather exposure. Alternatively, run cables along garden bed edges and cover them with decorative stones.

Step 6: Power On and Pair with the Bridge

  1. Plug the power supply into the outdoor outlet. All three lights should turn on with a default warm white.
  2. Open the Hue app and go to Settings, then Lights.
  3. Tap Add Light. Each Lily spotlight will appear as an individual light.
  4. Pair all three and assign them to an "Outdoor" or "Garden" room.

Step 7: Set Colors and Create Scenes

Each Lily light supports the full Hue White and Color range and can be controlled independently. Try setting different colors on each light, such as warm white on two and a subtle green on the third to complement garden foliage. Create scenes for different occasions like "Evening Garden" with warm amber tones or "Party" with vibrant colors.

Tips

  • Each Lily light produces approximately 600 lumens with a focused beam, providing effective uplighting.
  • The Lily lights are rated IP65 for weather resistance, handling rain, snow, and garden irrigation without issue.
  • Set up sunset-based automations in the Hue app so your landscape lighting turns on automatically every evening.
  • The low-voltage power supply is safe to use in wet locations, but the PSU itself should be placed in a sheltered location or inside a weatherproof enclosure.
  • You can add more Lily lights to the system (sold individually) by connecting them to the same PSU, up to the supply's capacity.
