What You Will Need

  • Ring Battery Doorbell Pro
  • Ring app (iOS or Android) with an active account
  • A 2.4 GHz WiFi network
  • Charged battery pack (charge with the included USB-C cable)
  • Phillips screwdriver or drill
  • Mounting screws and anchors (included)
  • Level (optional)

Step 1: Charge the Battery

Fully charge the included rechargeable battery before installation. Connect the USB-C cable to the battery pack and plug it into a USB power adapter. The LED on the battery turns solid green when fully charged. A complete charge takes approximately five to six hours.

Step 2: Set Up in the Ring App Before Mounting

  1. Open the Ring app and tap Set Up a Device.
  2. Select Doorbells, then choose Battery Doorbell Pro.
  3. Scan the QR code on the back of the doorbell.
  4. Insert the charged battery into the doorbell. Press it in until it clicks.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the doorbell to your 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
  6. Name the doorbell and assign it to a location.

Setting up the app connection before mounting allows you to confirm WiFi signal strength at the installation location and troubleshoot any connectivity issues while the doorbell is still easy to handle.

Step 3: Remove Your Existing Doorbell (If Applicable)

  1. If replacing a wired doorbell, turn off the breaker controlling the doorbell circuit.
  2. Remove the old doorbell and disconnect the wires.
  3. The Battery Doorbell Pro can optionally use existing 16-24 VAC doorbell wiring to trickle-charge the battery. If you choose to connect the wires, attach them to the two terminals on the back of the doorbell. They are not polarity-sensitive.
  4. If you do not have existing wiring, simply cap the wire ends with wire nuts and tuck them away.

Step 4: Mount the Doorbell

  1. Hold the mounting bracket against the wall beside your door at approximately four feet above the ground (48 inches). Use a level to ensure it is straight.
  2. Mark the screw holes with a pencil.
  3. Drill pilot holes. Insert wall anchors if mounting on brick, stone, or stucco.
  4. Secure the mounting bracket with the included screws.
  5. Attach the doorbell to the bracket by pressing it into place, then tighten the security screw at the bottom using the included star-shaped screwdriver.

Step 5: Configure 3D Motion Detection

The Battery Doorbell Pro features built-in radar for 3D Motion Detection, giving you precise control over motion alerts:

  • Motion Zones — Draw zones on the radar map to define exactly where you want to detect motion. You can set zones at specific distances from the doorbell.
  • Bird's Eye View — See an overhead map of motion paths on your property (requires Ring Protect subscription).
  • Near and Far Zones — Configure separate sensitivity for close-range and far-range detection to reduce alerts from sidewalk traffic while still catching visitors on your porch.

Tips for Best Performance

  • Battery life typically lasts six to twelve months. Connect to existing doorbell wiring or a Ring Solar Charger for continuous battery maintenance.
  • The doorbell records 1536p Head-to-Toe HD+ video with a tall 150 x 150 degree field of view.
  • Use the included corner and wedge kits to angle the doorbell if your front door is set back from the walkway.
  • A Ring Protect subscription is required to save video recordings, access Bird's Eye View, and use advanced detection features like package and person detection.
