What You'll Need
- Sensibo Sky Smart AC Controller
- Sensibo app (iOS or Android)
- 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
- Air conditioner with an IR remote control
- USB power cable (included)
- Power adapter or powered USB port
Before You Start
The Sensibo Sky is a compact IR blaster that gives your air conditioner smart features like app control, voice commands, scheduling, and climate automation. It works with any AC that uses an infrared remote, including ductless mini-splits, window units, portable ACs, and heat pumps. The Sensibo does not replace your existing thermostat or wire into your HVAC -- it sits near your AC and sends IR commands on your behalf.
Placement Tips
The Sensibo Sky must be positioned with a clear line of sight to your AC's IR receiver. The built-in IR blaster has a range of about 8 meters (25 feet) with a wide transmission angle, so you have some flexibility. For wall-mounted mini-splits, mounting the Sensibo on the wall below or beside the indoor unit works well. For window units, place it on a shelf or table facing the AC's front panel.
Step-by-Step Setup
- Download the Sensibo app and create an account.
- Mount the Sensibo Sky:
- Choose a location with clear line of sight to the AC's IR receiver
- Use the included 3M adhesive tape for wall mounting, or the screw mount for a permanent installation
- Leave enough slack in the USB cable for a clean run to the power source
- Connect power via the USB cable to an adapter or powered USB port.
- Add the device in the app:
- Tap "+" and select "Add new device"
- The app will detect the Sensibo Sky via Bluetooth during initial setup
- Select your AC brand and model, or use auto-detection
- Connect to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
- Test all AC functions. Send power, temperature, fan speed, and mode commands to verify everything works.
AC Compatibility Notes
The Sensibo Sky supports thousands of AC models from virtually every brand. During setup, the app searches its database for your AC. If the exact model is not listed, select the brand and try the suggested code profiles. You can also use the auto-detection wizard, which sends test signals and asks you to confirm which commands your AC responds to. If all else fails, the learning mode lets you teach the Sensibo the IR codes from your original remote button by button.
The device supports all standard AC modes including cool, heat, dry, fan, and auto. Swing control and turbo mode availability depend on your AC model.
Smart Home Integration
The Sensibo Sky has broad platform support: Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, and IFTTT. HomeKit integration means you can control your AC from the Apple Home app, create automations with other HomeKit devices, and use Siri. SmartThings users can include the AC in scenes and automations. The Sensibo also has a public API, making it one of the better options for Home Assistant integration through the official Sensibo component.
Energy Saving Features
- Climate React is Sensibo's standout feature. It monitors the room temperature and humidity using built-in sensors and automatically adjusts the AC to maintain your target conditions. You set rules like "if temperature rises above 78, turn AC on to cool at 72"
- 7-day scheduling lets you program different temperatures and modes for each day
- Geofencing turns the AC off when you leave and back on when you approach home
- Filter cleaning reminders track AC runtime and notify you when it is time to clean the filter
- Usage analytics in the app show AC runtime patterns over days and weeks
Troubleshooting
- AC not responding to commands: Check line of sight between the Sensibo and the AC's IR receiver. Try moving the device closer or adjusting the angle. If commands work intermittently, the IR signal may be reflecting off surfaces. Test with the original remote from the Sensibo's position to confirm the AC can receive signals from there.
- Wrong AC profile: If some commands work but others do not, try a different code profile for your brand. The app lists multiple profiles per brand. You can also use the learning mode to capture individual button signals from your original remote.
- Won't connect to Wi-Fi: The Sensibo Sky requires 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. If the app cannot find the device during setup, make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone (the initial pairing uses Bluetooth). If Wi-Fi connection fails, verify you are selecting a 2.4GHz network and the password is correct.
- Climate React not working as expected: Make sure the temperature sensor on the Sensibo is not positioned in direct airflow from the AC. Cold air blowing directly on the sensor will cause it to read lower than the actual room temperature, leading to the AC cycling on and off frequently.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the button on the Sensibo Sky for 15 seconds until the LED blinks rapidly. This clears all settings and puts the device back into pairing mode.
