What's in the Box
The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch (Matter) package includes the exterior escutcheon with a fingerprint sensor and backlit keypad, the interior lock assembly with a Matter-over-Thread module, a mounting plate, a latch bolt, strike plates, four AA batteries, a DoorSense magnet, a key override set, installation hardware, and an installation guide. The "Touch" variant adds biometric fingerprint recognition for quick, code-free entry. As a Matter device, it works with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings using the Thread wireless protocol.
Prerequisites
Before starting the installation, verify the following:
- Your door has a standard deadbolt bore (2-1/8 inch face, 1-inch edge)
- Door thickness is between 1-3/8 inches and 2-1/4 inches
- A Thread border router is in your home — Apple HomePod Mini, Apple TV 4K (2021+), Google Nest Hub (2nd gen), or Samsung SmartThings Station
- A Matter-compatible app is installed on your phone (Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, or SmartThings)
- The Yale Access app is also installed for initial Bluetooth configuration
- A Phillips-head screwdriver is available
Step-by-Step Installation
- Remove the existing deadbolt from both sides of the door. Unscrew the interior assembly, remove the exterior assembly, and pull out the latch bolt.
- Insert the Yale latch bolt into the door edge with the "UP" label facing up and secure it with screws.
- Install the strike plate on the frame. Check that the bolt slides in and out smoothly when the door is closed.
- Thread the exterior assembly's cable through the door hole and position the keypad flush against the door face.
- Mount the interior plate, connect the cable, and secure the interior assembly with screws. Insert four AA batteries.
- Attach the DoorSense magnet to the door frame, aligned with the sensor indicator on the lock.
- Test the lock by pressing the touchscreen keypad and using the interior thumb turn to confirm the bolt operates smoothly.
App Pairing and Configuration
Begin with the Yale Access app to perform initial Bluetooth configuration. Create a master entry code and set up additional user codes. To register fingerprints, navigate to the fingerprint settings in the Yale Access app. Place your finger on the sensor repeatedly from different angles until the app confirms enrollment. Register at least two fingerprints per person for reliability, and consider registering fingers from both hands. For Matter setup, open your preferred smart home app and scan the Matter QR code from the lock's packaging. The lock connects through your Thread border router. Configure auto-lock timing, DoorSense open-door alerts, and one-touch locking from either the Yale Access app or your Matter platform.
Smart Home Integration Tips
The Matter-enabled Touch model provides the broadest smart home compatibility of any Yale fingerprint lock. It works natively in Apple HomeKit — ask Siri to lock the door, or set up geofencing automations that lock the door when you leave home. In Google Home, include the lock in routines triggered by time or location. In Alexa, add it to bedtime routines that lock the door and turn off lights. Multi-admin Matter support means the lock can be controlled from Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa simultaneously. Thread mesh networking ensures the lock maintains a strong, low-power connection that improves as more Thread devices are added to your network. The fingerprint feature works independently of any smart home platform — it is managed locally on the lock itself.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the fingerprint sensor does not recognize enrolled fingerprints, clean the sensor surface with a dry cloth and re-register the fingerprints. Wet, dirty, or very dry fingers can cause recognition failures. If the lock does not appear during Matter setup, check that your Thread border router is powered on and within range. Thread typically reaches 30 to 50 feet, but walls and obstacles reduce range. If the QR code does not scan, enter the manual pairing code printed below it. If the bolt does not move smoothly, check door alignment and ensure the mounting screws are not overtightened. Replace all four batteries at once if the lock becomes sluggish, as mixed battery levels cause inconsistent performance.
