The Amazon Echo Show lineup includes smart displays ranging from the compact Echo Show 5 to the large Echo Show 15 with wall-mount options. This guide covers common issues across all Echo Show models.
Display Not Turning On
Symptoms
- Black screen when powered
- Screen flickers then goes dark
- No response to touch or voice
Solutions
- Check power connection - Ensure the power adapter is fully plugged into both the Echo Show and outlet. Try a different outlet.
- Use correct adapter - Only use the included power adapter. Third-party adapters may not provide sufficient power.
- Force restart - Unplug for 60 seconds, then plug back in. For Echo Show 10, also check the motorized base isn't obstructed.
- Check brightness - Say "Alexa, set brightness to 100%" in case the display is on but too dim to see.
- Factory reset - If unresponsive, press and hold the mute and volume down buttons for 15 seconds.
Touchscreen Not Responding
Symptoms
- Taps and swipes ignored
- Delayed touch response
- Random ghost touches
Solutions
- Clean the screen - Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth. Oils and debris can interfere with touch detection.
- Remove screen protector - Third-party screen protectors may reduce touch sensitivity.
- Restart the device - Swipe down from top > Settings > Device Options > Restart, or unplug and replug.
- Check for overheating - If the device is hot, let it cool down. High temperatures can cause touch issues.
Video Calling Not Working
Symptoms
- Camera shows black during calls
- Other party can't see or hear you
- Calls fail to connect
Solutions
- Check camera shutter - Echo Show 5/8 have a physical camera cover. Ensure it's open (not showing red).
- Enable camera permissions - Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera and ensure it's enabled.
- Verify contact setup - Both parties need the Alexa app with Alexa Calling enabled and verified phone numbers.
- Check WiFi speed - Video calls require at least 1 Mbps upload. Test your connection speed.
- For Echo Show 10 motion - Ensure auto-framing is enabled in Settings > Camera to have it follow you during calls.
Smart Home Dashboard Issues
Symptoms

- Can't control devices from display
- Zigbee devices won't pair
Solutions
- Enable smart home dashboard - Swipe down > Settings > Home & Clock > Home Screen and enable device controls.
- Customize dashboard - Tap and hold on device cards to rearrange or add favorites to the home screen.
- For Zigbee devices - Echo Show 10 has a built-in Zigbee hub. Other models require a separate hub for Zigbee.
- Refresh device list - Say "Alexa, discover my devices" to find new smart home devices.

Symptoms
- Screen doesn't follow you
- Jerky or erratic movement
- Motor making noise
Solutions
