Common Causes

  • Display driver or software glitch after a failed update
  • Wi-Fi connectivity issues preventing content from loading on the screen
  • HDMI or video output issues if using external display features
  • The motion tracking motor is stuck or disabled, preventing the display from rotating
  • Brightness settings set too low or adaptive brightness malfunctioning
  • Overheating causing the device to dim or shut down the display

Step 1: Check the Display and Brightness

  1. If the screen appears completely black, tap the screen or say "Alexa" to wake the device. The screen may be in standby mode.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen and check the brightness slider. If brightness is at minimum, drag it up.
  3. Check if Adaptive Brightness is causing issues. Go to Settings > Display > Adaptive Brightness and toggle it off to manually control brightness.
  4. If the screen is dim only at certain times, check whether a Night Mode schedule is enabled under Settings > Display > Night Mode.

Step 2: Restart the Echo Show 10

  1. Unplug the Echo Show 10 from the power outlet.
  2. Wait 60 seconds. The longer wait is recommended for the Echo Show 10 because the motorized base and larger display need time to fully discharge.
  3. Plug it back in and wait for the device to boot up completely. The motorized base will center the display during startup.
  4. After the home screen appears, test by saying "Alexa, show me the weather."

Step 3: Fix Motion Tracking Issues

If the display is not rotating to follow you or is stuck in one position:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Settings > Motion.
  2. Verify that Motion is toggled on. If it is disabled, the display will not rotate.
  3. Check that nothing is physically blocking the rotation. The display needs at least 10 inches of clearance on all sides to rotate freely.
  4. If the motor makes grinding or clicking sounds, something may be caught in the base. Power off the device, carefully inspect around the base, and remove any obstructions.
  5. Try saying "Alexa, follow me" to manually engage motion tracking and see if the display responds.

Step 4: Verify Wi-Fi Connection

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and check the Wi-Fi icon. A broken or missing icon indicates a connectivity problem.
  2. If disconnected, go to Settings > Network and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.
  3. Without an internet connection, the Echo Show 10 cannot display weather, news, photos, or stream content. It can still show the clock and respond to basic offline commands.
  4. Run a network test: restart your router by unplugging it for 60 seconds, then plugging it back in.

Step 5: Check for Software Updates

  1. Display glitches are often fixed by software updates. Swipe down and go to Settings > Device Options > Check for Software Updates.
  2. If an update is available, let it download and install completely. The device may restart.
  3. After updating, test the display by navigating to different screens: clock, weather, photos, and smart home controls.

Step 6: Fix Screen Freezing or Unresponsive Touch

  1. If the screen is frozen and does not respond to touch or voice commands, perform a hard restart by pressing and holding the Mute and Volume Down buttons simultaneously for 15 seconds.
  2. The device will force restart. Wait for it to fully boot up.
  3. If the touchscreen is unresponsive but voice commands work, there may be a digitizer issue. Try wiping the screen with a clean, dry microfiber cloth, as moisture or oils can interfere with touch sensitivity.

Step 7: Factory Reset

  1. If display issues persist, perform a factory reset. Go to Settings > Device Options > Reset to Factory Defaults.
  2. Confirm the reset. All personal settings, accounts, and preferences will be erased.
  3. Set up the device from scratch and test the display during each step of the setup process.

When to Contact Support

If the display has visible damage such as dead pixels, discoloration, or lines across the screen, this indicates a hardware problem. Similarly, if the motorized base makes abnormal sounds or does not rotate after a factory reset, contact Amazon Customer Support for warranty service or replacement options.
