If your Amazon Echo Show has a frozen screen, touchscreen not responding, display glitches, or video calling problems, this guide will help you troubleshoot and fix these issues.

Touchscreen Not Responding to Touch

When the Echo Show screen doesn't respond to taps or swipes:

  • Clean the screen with a soft, dry microfiber cloth - oils and dirt can affect touch sensitivity
  • Restart the device by holding the mute button for 20 seconds until it turns off
  • Check if the screen protector (if installed) is interfering with touch
  • Ensure your hands are clean and dry - wet fingers may not register properly
  • Try using voice commands ("Alexa, go home") to navigate if touch isn't working
  • Perform a factory reset if touch remains unresponsive

Screen Frozen or Stuck on Boot Logo

If the display is frozen or stuck during startup:

  • Hold the mute button for 20-30 seconds to force a restart
  • Unplug the power adapter, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in
  • Try a different power outlet to rule out power issues
  • If stuck on logo repeatedly, hold mute + volume down for 15 seconds to enter recovery
  • Allow up to 10 minutes for software updates to complete during boot

Display Shows Lines, Discoloration, or Flickering

Visual display problems can have several causes:

  • Restart the Echo Show to see if the issue is software-related
  • Check the ambient light sensor isn't covered, causing brightness issues
  • Adjust display brightness in Settings > Display > Brightness
  • Disable Adaptive Brightness to see if that resolves flickering
  • If lines or dead pixels persist after restart, this may indicate hardware failure
  • Contact Amazon support for warranty replacement if display is damaged

Video Calling Not Working

If video calls fail to connect or have poor quality:

  • Check that the camera isn't covered by the privacy shutter
  • Verify Do Not Disturb mode is turned off
  • Ensure Communications settings are enabled in the Alexa app
  • Check your WiFi connection strength - video calls need good bandwidth
  • Restart both the Echo Show and your router
  • Update to the latest software version

Screen Goes Black or Turns Off Randomly

When the display unexpectedly turns off:

  • Check Screen Timeout settings in Settings > Display
  • Disable "Screen Off" in Do Not Disturb schedule settings
  • Ensure the power adapter is firmly connected
  • Try a different Amazon power adapter if available
  • Check if the device feels hot - it may be shutting down due to overheating
  • Move the device away from direct sunlight or heat sources

Home Screen Widgets Not Updating

If widgets show outdated information:

  • Swipe down and tap Settings > Home Content to verify widgets are enabled
  • Check your internet connection is working properly
  • Remove and re-add problematic widgets
  • Restart the Echo Show to refresh widget data
  • Ensure location services are enabled for weather widgets

Factory Reset Your Echo Show

As a last resort for persistent issues:

  • Say "Alexa, go to settings" or swipe down and tap Settings
  • Select Device Options > Reset to Factory Defaults
  • Confirm the reset and wait for the device to restart
  • Set up the Echo Show again through the Alexa app
  • Note: This erases all settings and personalization
