Common Causes
- The sensor's battery is depleted or making poor contact
- The sensor is out of Zigbee range from the Aqara hub
- The Aqara hub has lost its connection to WiFi or HomeKit
- Hub firmware is outdated, causing Zigbee communication issues
- The sensor was removed from the hub but not re-paired
- HomeKit bridge between the Aqara hub and Apple Home is disconnected
Fix 1: Check and Replace the Battery
- Remove the Water Leak Sensor from its location and flip it over.
- Use a coin or small flathead screwdriver to twist open the battery cover on the back.
- The sensor uses a CR2032 coin cell battery. Check if the battery is still in place and making good contact with the terminals.
- Replace the battery with a fresh CR2032, ensuring the positive side (+) faces up.
- Close the battery cover. The sensor's LED should blink briefly, indicating it has power.
- Check the Aqara Home app to see if the sensor comes back online within a few minutes.
Fix 2: Verify the Aqara Hub Is Online
All Aqara Zigbee sensors rely on an Aqara hub for connectivity. If the hub itself is offline, all connected sensors will appear unresponsive.
- Open the Aqara Home app and check the status of your hub (M2, M3, or Camera Hub G3).
- If the hub shows as offline, check that it is plugged in and that its Ethernet cable (if using wired connection) or WiFi connection is active.
- Restart the hub by unplugging it for 10 seconds and plugging it back in.
- Wait 1 to 2 minutes for the hub to reconnect. Once the hub is online, your sensors should automatically reconnect.
Fix 3: Move the Sensor Closer to the Hub
Zigbee has a typical indoor range of about 10 to 20 meters, depending on wall materials and obstructions. If the sensor is at the edge of this range, it may drop its connection.
- Temporarily move the sensor to within 3 meters of the hub to test the connection.
- If the sensor reconnects, the issue is range. Add Zigbee repeater devices such as an Aqara Smart Plug or a wired Aqara Wall Switch between the hub and the sensor's intended location. These powered Zigbee devices extend the mesh network.
- Place the sensor back in its original location and verify it stays connected.
Fix 4: Re-Pair the Sensor
If the sensor still shows as offline after checking the battery and hub, remove it from the app and pair it again.
- In the Aqara Home app, go to the sensor's device page, tap Settings, and select Remove Device.
- On the sensor, press and hold the small reset button on the top for 5 seconds until the LED blinks three times rapidly.
- In the app, tap + and select Add Accessory. Choose the Water Leak Sensor from the list.
- Press the reset button on the sensor once to put it in pairing mode. The app should detect it within 30 seconds.
- Assign the sensor to a room and test it by touching the metal contacts on the bottom with a damp finger.
Fix 5: Fix the HomeKit Connection
If the sensor works in the Aqara Home app but appears as "No Response" in Apple HomeKit, the issue is with the HomeKit bridge.
- Open the Aqara Home app and go to your hub's settings.
- Check the HomeKit or Apple Home section to verify the bridge is connected.
- If the bridge shows as disconnected, try restarting the hub.
- In the Apple Home app, check if the hub itself appears as responsive. If not, remove the hub from Apple Home and re-add it using the HomeKit setup code.
- After re-adding the hub, all paired sensors should reappear in Apple Home automatically.
Fix 6: Update Hub Firmware
- Open the Aqara Home app and navigate to your hub's device page.
- Tap Settings and look for a firmware update notification.
- Install any available updates. The hub will restart after the update.
- After the update, check if the previously offline sensors reconnect. Firmware updates often resolve Zigbee stability issues.
When to Contact Support
If you have replaced the battery, confirmed the hub is online, re-paired the sensor, and it still shows offline, the sensor's Zigbee radio may be damaged. Contact Aqara Support with your device serial number to inquire about a warranty replacement.
