Aqara sensors showing as offline or not responding in Apple HomeKit is a common issue. This guide explains how to fix connectivity problems with Aqara motion sensors, door sensors, and temperature sensors.
Why Aqara Sensors Go Offline
- Sensor is too far from the Aqara hub
- Low battery in the sensor
- Zigbee interference from WiFi or other devices
- Hub lost connection to WiFi
- HomeKit sync issue
How to Fix Offline Aqara Sensors
Check the Sensor Battery
Aqara sensors use CR2032 batteries that last about 2 years. In the Aqara Home app, tap the sensor and check the battery level. Replace the battery if it is below 20%.
Test the Connection
Short press the reset button on the sensor. If the indicator light flashes and the hub says Normal Link Confirmed, communication is working. If not, the sensor may be too far from the hub.
Move the Sensor Closer to the Hub
Zigbee sensors work best within 30 feet of the hub with minimal walls between them. Adding an Aqara smart plug between the sensor and hub can extend the mesh network range.
Restart the Aqara Hub
- Unplug the Aqara hub from power
- Wait 30 seconds
- Plug it back in
- Wait 2-3 minutes for all sensors to reconnect
Re-add the Sensor
- Open the Aqara Home app
- Delete the offline sensor
- Put the hub in pairing mode
- Press and hold the reset button on the sensor for 5 seconds until it flashes
- Add the sensor again
Fix HomeKit Sync Issues
If the sensor works in the Aqara app but not in HomeKit:
- Open the Aqara Home app
- Go to Settings then Smart Home Platforms
- Tap Apple HomeKit
- Toggle the sensor off, wait 10 seconds, then toggle it back on
