ConBee II is a USB Zigbee gateway for Home Assistant and deCONZ. This guide covers setup and pairing issues.
ConBee II Not Detected
- Use USB extension cable to avoid interference
- Check dmesg for device detection on Linux
- Verify USB port provides sufficient power
- Try different USB port (USB 2.0 may be more reliable)
- Install firmware update via deCONZ app
Home Assistant ZHA Setup
- Add ZHA integration in HA settings
- Select serial port (/dev/ttyACM0 typical)
- Choose "ConBee II" as radio type
- Form new network if starting fresh
- Don't use ZHA and deCONZ simultaneously
deCONZ Setup Alternative
- Install deCONZ add-on in HA
- Access Phoscon web UI for management
- Create API key for HA integration
- More device support than ZHA for some devices
- Backup/restore available for network
Devices Won't Pair
- Put device in pairing mode (varies by device)
- Enable "permit join" in ZHA or deCONZ
- Keep device close to ConBee during pairing
- Some devices need factory reset first
- Try pairing with other devices turned off
Devices Dropping Off Network
- Add more Zigbee repeaters (powered devices)
- USB interference from USB 3.0 ports is common
- Use shielded USB extension cable
- Position ConBee centrally in home
- Rebuild network routes if persistent issues
Firmware Updates
- Check current firmware in deCONZ
- Download latest from Phoscon website
- Flash via deCONZ GUI or command line
- Backup network before firmware update
- Devices remain paired after update
