ConBee II is a USB Zigbee gateway for Home Assistant and deCONZ. This guide covers setup and pairing issues.

ConBee II Not Detected

  1. Use USB extension cable to avoid interference
  2. Check dmesg for device detection on Linux
  3. Verify USB port provides sufficient power
  4. Try different USB port (USB 2.0 may be more reliable)
  5. Install firmware update via deCONZ app

Home Assistant ZHA Setup

  1. Add ZHA integration in HA settings
  2. Select serial port (/dev/ttyACM0 typical)
  3. Choose "ConBee II" as radio type
  4. Form new network if starting fresh
  5. Don't use ZHA and deCONZ simultaneously

deCONZ Setup Alternative

  1. Install deCONZ add-on in HA
  2. Access Phoscon web UI for management
  3. Create API key for HA integration
  4. More device support than ZHA for some devices
  5. Backup/restore available for network

Devices Won't Pair

  1. Put device in pairing mode (varies by device)
  2. Enable "permit join" in ZHA or deCONZ
  3. Keep device close to ConBee during pairing
  4. Some devices need factory reset first
  5. Try pairing with other devices turned off

Devices Dropping Off Network

  1. Add more Zigbee repeaters (powered devices)
  2. USB interference from USB 3.0 ports is common
  3. Use shielded USB extension cable
  4. Position ConBee centrally in home
  5. Rebuild network routes if persistent issues

Firmware Updates

  1. Check current firmware in deCONZ
  2. Download latest from Phoscon website
  3. Flash via deCONZ GUI or command line
  4. Backup network before firmware update
  5. Devices remain paired after update
