Identifying the Issue

When your Denon Home 150 smart speaker is not connecting to your network or experiencing multi-room audio problems, you may notice the speaker appearing offline in the HEOS app, audio dropping out during playback, or the speaker failing to join or stay in a multi-room group. These issues can occur during initial setup, after a network change, or seemingly at random on a previously working system.

Common Causes

  • Wi-Fi signal weakness: The Denon Home 150 connects via Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and performance degrades significantly if the signal is weak at the speaker's location
  • Network configuration changes: A new router, updated password, or changed network settings will disconnect the speaker
  • HEOS account sync issues: Multi-room features require all speakers to be signed into the same HEOS account and connected to the same network
  • Mixed network connections: If some speakers in a group are on 2.4 GHz and others on 5 GHz, or if some are on Ethernet while others use Wi-Fi, latency differences can cause sync problems
  • Firmware version mismatch: All HEOS speakers in a multi-room group must run the same firmware version to work together reliably
  • Router limitations: Some routers limit the number of simultaneous Wi-Fi connections or have built-in features like band steering that confuse smart devices

Step-by-Step Fixes

  1. Restart the speaker: Unplug the Denon Home 150 from power, wait 15 seconds, and plug it back in. Allow it to fully boot — the LED indicator will cycle through colors and then settle once the speaker is ready.
  2. Restart your router: Power cycle your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds. Wait for all network indicators to return to normal, then check if the speaker reconnects in the HEOS app.
  3. Check network connectivity: Open the HEOS app on your phone and see if the Denon Home 150 appears in the "Rooms" tab. If it does not, ensure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network where the speaker was originally set up.
  4. Reconnect to Wi-Fi: If the speaker lost its network credentials, put it back into setup mode by pressing and holding the Connect button on the back of the unit until the LED flashes. Then open the HEOS app and follow the setup wizard to reconnect the speaker to your Wi-Fi network.
  5. Update firmware on all speakers: In the HEOS app, go to Settings and check for firmware updates. Update every HEOS speaker on your network to the same version. Firmware mismatches are a common cause of multi-room grouping failures.
  6. Ensure all speakers use the same network: Verify in the HEOS app that all speakers in your multi-room setup are connected to the same Wi-Fi network (same SSID and band). If possible, connect all speakers to the 5 GHz band for better audio streaming performance, or use Ethernet for the primary speaker.
  7. Disable problematic router features: In your router's admin panel, disable band steering, airtime fairness, and AP isolation. These features can interfere with HEOS device discovery and multi-room synchronization.
  8. Factory reset the speaker: As a last resort, press and hold the Connect button on the back of the speaker for more than 5 seconds until the LED flashes amber. This resets the speaker to factory defaults. Set it up again through the HEOS app as a new device.

When to Contact Support

If the speaker repeatedly fails to connect after a factory reset, if the LED shows an unusual blinking pattern not documented in the manual, or if multi-room audio consistently desynchronizes despite all speakers being on the same network and firmware version, contact Denon customer support. Provide your speaker's serial number and firmware version, both accessible in the HEOS app under the speaker's settings.

Prevention Tips

Keep all HEOS speakers updated to the latest firmware simultaneously to prevent version mismatches. Use a dedicated Wi-Fi band or VLAN for your HEOS speakers if your router supports it. Position speakers within strong Wi-Fi coverage — the Denon Home 150 is compact and easy to reposition if signal strength is an issue. Avoid placing speakers inside enclosed cabinets where Wi-Fi signals are attenuated. After any router change or network migration, immediately reconnect all HEOS devices to prevent them from falling out of sync.
