Identifying the Issue
When your eufy Security eufyCam 3 is not connecting to the HomeBase 3 or not recording events, you may see the camera as offline in the eufy Security app, receive no motion alerts, find gaps in the recording timeline, or get a "Failed to Connect" error when attempting to view the live stream. The eufyCam 3 communicates wirelessly with the HomeBase 3 (S380) and stores all footage locally on the HomeBase, so problems can originate from the camera, the HomeBase, the wireless link, or the storage system.
Common Causes
- HomeBase 3 offline: If the HomeBase loses its Ethernet connection or power, every camera linked to it becomes unreachable simultaneously.
- Camera battery depleted: The eufyCam 3 has an integrated solar panel, but if it is installed in a shaded location, the battery may drain over time. Once depleted, the camera powers off completely.
- Distance or obstructions: The wireless range between the eufyCam 3 and HomeBase 3 is approximately 100 feet in open air. Thick walls, metal siding, and multi-story placement reduce this range significantly.
- HomeBase storage full: If the HomeBase's built-in 16 GB storage and any installed hard drive are both full, new recordings cannot be saved.
- Firmware incompatibility: Mismatched firmware versions between the camera and HomeBase can cause sync failures and recording errors.
Step-by-Step Fixes
- Check HomeBase 3 status: Verify the HomeBase LED is solid blue. If it is off or red, unplug the power adapter and disconnect the Ethernet cable. Wait 15 seconds, then reconnect both. Allow two minutes for the HomeBase to boot fully. Try a different Ethernet port or cable if the LED remains red.
- Check camera battery: In the eufy Security app, view the eufyCam 3's battery percentage. If it is critically low or at zero, remove the camera from its mount and charge it via USB-C for three hours. If the solar panel is not maintaining the charge, relocate the camera to a sunnier position or add an external eufy solar panel.
- Test at close range: Bring the camera within 10 feet of the HomeBase. If it connects at close range but not at the outdoor location, the mounting position is too far or too obstructed. Consider moving the HomeBase to a closer outlet or adding a HomeBase signal extender.
- Free up storage: In the eufy Security app, go to HomeBase settings and check storage capacity. Delete old recordings you no longer need. If you have installed a hard drive, verify it is detected and functioning properly. Enable auto-overwrite so the oldest footage is replaced when storage fills up.
- Update firmware: Update the HomeBase firmware first, then the camera firmware, through the eufy Security app. Keep the camera near the HomeBase during the update process.
- Re-sync the camera: Remove the eufyCam 3 from the app and add it again by pressing the sync button on the camera and following the setup prompts. This creates a fresh wireless pairing with the HomeBase.
- Factory reset: As a last resort, reset both the camera (hold the sync button for 10 seconds) and the HomeBase (press the reset button with a pin for 10 seconds). Set up the entire system from scratch. Note that factory resetting the HomeBase erases all stored recordings.
When to Contact Support
Contact eufy support if the camera will not sync with the HomeBase even at close range with a full battery, if the HomeBase does not come online after power cycling and Ethernet verification, or if recordings are consistently corrupted or missing despite adequate storage. Provide device serial numbers and firmware versions when contacting support.
Prevention Tips
Mount the eufyCam 3 where its solar panel receives at least three hours of direct sunlight daily. Position the HomeBase 3 centrally in your home for the best wireless reach to all outdoor cameras. Install a hard drive in the HomeBase for expanded storage and enable auto-overwrite. Keep firmware updated on both the HomeBase and camera. Assign the HomeBase a static IP address in your router settings to prevent DHCP-related disconnections that affect all connected cameras.
