Understanding the Issue
The Eve Flare is a portable, battery-powered LED light sphere that connects to Apple HomeKit over Bluetooth. It provides ambient lighting with full color and white temperature control, and can be used indoors or outdoors. When the Eve Flare or a related Eve Light Strip or Switch fails to connect or respond, the problem typically stems from Bluetooth range, battery charge, or HomeKit hub issues.
Common Causes
- The Eve Flare's internal battery is depleted or not charging
- The device is out of Bluetooth range from the Apple Home hub
- The HomeKit home hub (HomePod, HomePod Mini, or Apple TV 4K) is offline or not functioning as the active hub
- The charging base or cable is not making proper contact with the Eve Flare
- Firmware on the device is outdated
- The HomeKit pairing has been lost or corrupted
- Multiple Bluetooth accessories are overloading the hub's connection capacity
Step 1: Check Battery and Charging
- Place the Eve Flare on its charging base and verify the charging indicator activates. The LED on the base or the Flare itself should show a charging status.
- Ensure the charging base is plugged into a working outlet using the included USB cable and adapter.
- Clean the charging contacts on both the Eve Flare and the base with a dry cloth to remove any dust or debris that could prevent charging.
- Allow the Eve Flare to charge for at least two hours if the battery is fully depleted before attempting to use it.
- Check the battery level in the Eve app once the device powers on.
Step 2: Verify Bluetooth Connectivity
- The Eve Flare connects via Bluetooth Low Energy and does not support Thread or Wi-Fi. Its effective range is approximately 10 to 15 meters (30 to 50 feet) from the home hub.
- Move the Eve Flare closer to your HomePod, HomePod Mini, or Apple TV 4K and check if it reconnects in the Home app.
- If you plan to use the Flare outdoors (on a patio, for example), ensure a home hub is positioned near the exterior wall or door closest to the outdoor area.
- Bluetooth signals weaken significantly through walls and floors. If the Flare is in a different room or floor from the hub, connectivity may be unreliable.
Step 3: Check Home Hub Status
- Open the Apple Home app, tap the three-dot menu, and select Home Settings.
- Verify your home hub shows as Connected. If it shows Standby or Not Connected, the hub may need a restart.
- Unplug the home hub for 30 seconds and plug it back in. Wait two minutes for it to fully restart.
- Check the Eve Flare's status in the Home app after the hub reconnects.
Step 4: Power Cycle the Eve Flare
- Turn off the Eve Flare using its physical button (located on the bottom of the device).
- Wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
- Wait one to two minutes for the device to reconnect to HomeKit.
- Open the Home app and attempt to control the light color and brightness.
Step 5: Update Firmware
- Open the Eve app and go to Settings > Devices.
- Select the Eve Flare and check for available firmware updates.
- Install any updates while keeping your phone close to the Flare. Bluetooth firmware updates can take several minutes.
- After updating, test the device's responsiveness.
Step 6: Reset and Re-Pair
- If the Eve Flare continues to disconnect, perform a factory reset by pressing and holding the power button for 10 to 15 seconds until the LED flashes in a specific pattern (refer to the Eve Flare manual for exact reset instructions).
- Remove the Eve Flare from the Home app by long-pressing the accessory, opening settings, and selecting Remove Accessory.
- Re-add the Eve Flare by scanning its HomeKit setup code in the Home app.
- Assign it to the correct room and configure any preferred color or brightness presets.
Additional Tips
- The Eve Flare is rated IP65 for water resistance, making it safe for outdoor use on patios and by pools. However, do not submerge it in water.
- If using the Eve Flare primarily as a portable light, note that HomeKit control requires being within Bluetooth range of a hub. When out of range, use the physical button for on/off control.
- Battery life is approximately six hours at full brightness. Dimming the light or using warmer tones extends battery life.
- If you experience frequent disconnections with multiple Bluetooth HomeKit accessories, consider upgrading some devices to Thread-enabled versions where possible to reduce Bluetooth congestion on your hub.
