Common Symptoms

  • Strip not powering on

Power Issues

Strip Won't Turn On

  1. Check power adapter is plugged in
  2. Verify outlet has power
  3. Inspect connection between adapter and strip
  4. Try different outlet

Controller LED Status

  • Check controller box for LED indicator
  • Solid light = connected
  • Blinking = connecting or setup mode
  • No light = no power

Partial Strip Issues

Sections Not Lighting

  • Check connector between controller and strip
  • For Z Strip extensions, verify connection
  • Inspect strip for cuts or damage
  • Only cut at designated marks

LIFX Z Strip Extensions

  • Each zone can be controlled separately
  • Check extension connections are secure
  • Maximum 10 zones (including extensions)
  • Verify zones appear in app

WiFi Setup

Initial Connection

  1. Power on strip (controller LED should blink)
  2. Open LIFX app and tap +
  3. Select strip type
  4. Connect to strip's setup network
  5. Enter home WiFi credentials

Connection Problems

  • Requires 2.4GHz WiFi
  • Keep controller close to router during setup
  • Disable VPN on phone
  • Check router isn't at device limit

Color Issues

Inconsistent Colors

  • Update firmware in LIFX app
  • Each zone may show slightly different colors
  • Check zone configuration in app

Color Calibration

  • Use LIFX app for most accurate colors
  • HomeKit/Alexa may interpret colors differently
  • Set up favorite colors in LIFX app

Effects and Scenes

Effects Not Working

  • Check strip firmware is updated
  • Verify strip is online
  • Some effects require specific strip types
  • Test with basic colors first

Multi-Zone Effects

  • Z Strip supports zone-specific effects
  • Configure zones in LIFX app
  • Move effect creates animation across zones

Outdoor String Lights

Weather Considerations

  • IP65 rated for outdoor use
  • Controller should be protected from direct rain
  • WiFi signal may be weaker outside
  • Bring inside during extreme weather

Installation Tips

  • Don't exceed maximum string length
  • Keep power adapter in dry location
  • Test before permanent installation

Reset Strip

  1. Unplug power for 10 seconds
  2. Plug back in
  3. If still issues, hold button on controller 10+ seconds
  4. Strip will reset to factory settings
  5. Re-add in LIFX app

HomeKit Setup

  • LIFX strips support HomeKit natively
  • Scan HomeKit code during initial setup
  • If missed, reset and set up again
  • Control via Home app including zones

When to Contact Support

Contact LIFX support if:

  • Controller doesn't power on
  • Multiple zones fail without damage
  • Overheating during operation
  • Physical damage to strip
