If one or more of your Nanoleaf panels aren't syncing with the rest, showing different colors, stuck on white, or lagging behind scene changes, this guide covers the most common causes and fixes from the community.
Single Panel Stuck on White or Wrong Color
A single panel remaining white or not matching the others usually means the panel hasn't been properly detected in the layout.
Try these steps:
- Unplug the Nanoleaf controller from the wall outlet
- Wait 10 seconds
- Plug it back in
- The panel may be re-discovered after the boot-up sequence
If that doesn't work:
- Try physically moving the panel to a different spot in your configuration
- Swap the linker connecting the problem panel with a known working one
- Check that the linker is fully seated in both panels
Linker Connection Issues
The linkers that connect panels can cause sync issues if they're loose or faulty.
Double linker problems:
One user fixed their sync issue: "Replacing double linkers with single linkers in the areas where panels were failing fixed the problem. The double linkers can act like traffic jams for data."
Rigid linker issues:
- Excessive rigid linkers can slow down data transmission between panels
- If possible, use flexible linkers instead for long runs
- Make sure all linker connections are firmly seated
Power Distribution (Large Setups)
If you have more than 21 panels and/or multiple controllers, power distribution becomes critical:
- Open the Nanoleaf app
- Go to your layout settings
- Activate "Power Diagnostic Mode"
- The app will show you where to place additional power supplies
Symptoms of power issues:
- Panels at the end of long chains not syncing
- Colors appearing dimmer on some panels
- Panels flickering or dropping out intermittently
Color Mismatch Between Old and New Panels
If you added extension panels and the colors don't match your original panels, this is a known issue.
One user reported: "I returned my Nanoleaf plus expansion packs because none of them had matching colours. Nanoleaf acknowledged this is a known issue which will be fixed in a software update."
What you can do:
- Check for firmware updates in the Nanoleaf app
- Contact Nanoleaf support—they've been reported as "extremely helpful in addressing the situation"
- Some users have received replacement panels with better color matching
Firmware Updates
Outdated firmware is a common cause of sync issues:
- Open the Nanoleaf app
- Go to device settings
- Check for firmware updates
- Install any available updates
- Keep the app open during the update process
Nanoleaf released firmware version 3.2.0 specifically to fix the white panel issue. Make sure your controller is up to date.
Display Freezing or Lagging
If panels are lagging behind the scene or freezing:
- This could indicate the controller is undergoing a firmware update
- Check that panel firmware is up to date (separate from controller firmware)
- Reduce the complexity of your scene if using custom effects
- Check for WiFi interference (move router away from panels)
Re-sync Your Layout
If nothing else works, try re-detecting your layout:
- Open the Nanoleaf app
- Go to your device
- Find "Layout" or "Pair New Panels"
- Let the app re-detect all panels
- This can fix panels that have lost their position in the mesh
